Wanderlust Wednesday- Olympic National Park
I had gotten a little behind on my Wanderlust Wednesdays, but after this one I’m happy that I will be caught up because one of my Travel Goals for 2012 was to have a Wanderlust Wednesday post for every week of the year. This one is extra special because it’s allowing me to tell all of you that I have my summer trip destination set! My best friend Hannah and I will be taking a road trip to Olympic National Park in Washington!
Olympic National Park is known for it’s three distinct ecosystems: subalpine forrest, temperate forest and the Pacific coastline! It’s a park that I have been dying to visit and the more pictures I see the more I want to go and now I’m lucky enough to get to go and I thought I would share some photos with you to trigger your Wanderlust to head out west!
If any of you guys have been to Olympic National Park I would love to hear what hikes are best, and any other tips that you can give, plus I’d just love to hear about your trips! So hit me up with any advice or stories! Thanks for reading!

Olympic is famous for its hiking trails, also best way to explore any parks is by hiking. Most of the time we do short hikes because we have a 2yr old with us, Good luck with your plan. Any plans to come to Portland, if yes do let me know, I would love to meet you in person
Your post is actually what made me start really looking into Olympic; your photos are so beautiful, and a true source of inspiration! What was your favorite hike that you did?
So far our plans aren’t to go to Portland, but I can discuss with my friend about stopping in for a day or so! I would love to meet you in person as well! I feel like I know you and your family through your posts! We’re going to be through Yakima and Seattle and those would be the closest to Portland, but I’ll let you know if we decide to go to Portland!

i absolutely love the western part of the states! every time i am there i leave feeling so inspired by the beauty, the wilderness, and the simplicity of nature. i haven’t been to olympia national park, but after you go, i am sure it will be on my list of places to visit! i can highly recommend glacier national park, though. amazing! so excited for your upcoming summer trip!
I agree about the West! There is just something about it. Have you been to the Southwest much because I love Zion and Bryce, and we’re going to go through Arches and Canyonlands on our way to Olympic. I went to Glacier very briefly on my way to Alaska a couple of years ago, but I would love to go back! I am also excited, and I can’t wait to share all about it! I love looking at your posts in Sweden even the little things in your posts make me want to go to Sweden every time I read your posts!

The beauty of Olympic National Park is truely one-of-a-kind…enjoy. If you find yourself wandering out of the Park and towards the Ocean, Kalaloch is great for camping and beach combing.

I’d recommend hiking the Seven Lakes Basin. Though popular, it is for a reason. The photo of the avalanche lilies with Mt. Olympus in the background was shot from there on the High Divide. Allow 3-4 days, which is a comfortable pace, and enjoy a soak in the hot springs at the end. Perhaps I’m biased, since it was my district as a backcountry ranger for the NPS many years ago, but it’s one of my favorite areas of the ONP highcountry.

I hitchhiked through the Olympic Peninsula once; it is a very beautiful place. I hitchhiked through Aberdeen, Forks and Port Angeles. I stayed at a real nice shelter in Port Angeles for one night. It is best to hitchhike through the Olympic Peninsula during the summer because it gets very rainy between November and April on the coast.
