Antelope Canyon

Antelope Canyon is a place that I’ve wanted to go for about a year, and I’m glad that we went, but it wasn’t at all what I expected as far as an experience.

I thought it would be just like any other outdoor experience, but it was not at all.  You have to go into the canyon with a tour, which I guess should have been a sign of how the experience would go.  We went on our tour and they literally herded you through like cattle.  They gave serious priority to the people who paid more to do the photography tour.  They made us stand back and we couldn’t walk through when the photography tour was taking pictures.  It was frustrating at times (especially since we only had 25-30 minutes in there), and you were shoved through so quickly that it was difficult to really take in the true beauty of this canyon.  However, I’m still very glad that we went, and the pictures we got were beautiful.  I hope you enjoy!

I am sorry the experience was not what you expected. We ended up going with Carol Bigthumb’s photography tour largely because they could also take us to smaller slot canyons in the same area–and there was no one but us there, so the experience was more intimate, and we got to really appreciate the places. The scale of the Antelope Canyon was breathtaking even with the crowds, but I agree that the sense of the place was a bit diluted with so many tours in every single chamber (and we were there off-season in October!). I am glad you got to see the ray beams thought.

I think I we would have researched more and read more reviews. The tour you took sounds much better. I’m glad we got to see the light ray too. They said that they’re harder to get in early March. I’m surprised it was still full in October! I’d hate to see it in the summer. Thanks for reading!
