Badlands National Park

When road tripping with my dad, his staple comment is “Can you imagine being the first people to come across this?!”  Seriously, everywhere we go… It’s gotten to the point that I say it all the time now.  When we were driving through the Badlands he said “Can you imagine being the first people to come across this?  I bet they were like ‘What the crap?!  I can’t plant corn here!’ “.  This was my favorite variation of this quote.

The Badlands are in the middle of the South Dakota Plains and it is another otherworldly sight.  We went when we were little kids and had a blast climbing all over them.  This time, we didn’t do much climbing.  We got out and stood on the peaks, drove trough the loop, stopped to see some big-horns and prairie dogs, and made our way back home.

This was our last real stop, and after this we drove all the way back to Springfield.  I had a really full trip, experienced some great things, saw some of the most beautiful things I’d ever seen and made some great memories with my family.

I’m waiting on some 35mm film to be developed, so stay tuned for my post on rafting the Elwha in Washington!

It was really great! I can’t wait to do it all over again. Especially in Moab and Washington. When will you be back in the US? Have you taken your wife on a classic American Road Trip, yet? Thanks for reading and commenting- love hearing from such a great fellow-traveler. 🙂
