The Best is Yet to Come, and It’s Called 2017!

It may seem a bit premature to be saying that 2017 is going to be the best year, but I like to start each year on a positive note! Plus, it’s hard to have doubts considering the few things I already have planned for this year! Let’s dig in, shall we?!

✈ I’m Heading to Iceland ✈

I always say that I want to take a weekend trip with my mom, and while those never seem to happen, we do have a habit of jetting to Europe every few years that make up for the lack of weekend trips. This year we’re taking off for just over a week to the land of fire and ice! Our trip will include checking out the northern lights,  a trip full of stops around the golden circle, explorations in Reykjavik, a soak in the Blue Lagoon and so much more! Only 34 days until we depart!

✈ Get 176 Hiking Miles In ✈

I love setting a hiking goal for each year (I add ten to the number I did the year before) and this year I’m planning on getting one-hundred-seventy-six beautiful miles in this year! That averages out to just under 3.5 miles each week, and I can’t wait to meet this goal with the help of my awesome husband, friends and family!

✈ Speaking of Hiking, I Want to Take a Hiking Trip with My Dad ✈

I’ve been on a hike with my dad every year since 2008 and I don’t want that tradition to end anytime soon. Sometimes it’s a multi-week hiking adventure, sometimes it’s a few days to a new national park and sometimes it’s just a day trip down to Arkansas, but it’s always a good time! I can’t wait to see where we go this year.

✈ Take a Road Trip ✈

I LOVE road trips! I try to take at least one every year and while some are more epic than others, I always, always, always enjoy them! This year we have plans to go to Wisconsin with my parents just before taking off to Asia, but I’m really itching to road trip to Asheville at some point this year as well. Fingers crossed we can make it happen!

✈ My Husband + I Are Taking Off for Southeast Asia With No Return Date ✈

It has been a little over 2 years in the making, but we finally have a departure date and September 12th is the day that Matt and I are taking off to Bangkok with a one-way ticket! We have no set return date, but we know we will be gone (barring any unforeseeable incidents, of course) until March 2018 because we’ll be spending my 28th birthday in India, attending the Holi Festival! We have plans to visit the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal and Sri Lanka as well! Needless to say, I’m beyond excited for this adventure! (I did say the best is yet to come!)

✈ Finish My Southeast Asia Book ✈

I wanted to finish this book by the end of the year, but that didn’t happen. So, I’m hoping to make it happen before flying off to Bangkok, but at the very least, before the end of the year. I’ve made some decent headway, but I’ve still got a long way to go!

✈ Keep a Better Travel Journal ✈

I’ve always been an avid journaler while traveling, but when I was in SE Asia in 2015 I sort-of fell off the journal wagon, and instead of really taking the time to write about each day, I just made lists and jotted down things to remember. But in 2017 I want to get better at logging all my details and take the time to create more thoughtful travel journals.

✈ Inspire Travel ✈

This has always been the goal of this blog. I have been documenting my travels and making guides over the last few years with the hope of inspiring others to follow their travel dreams!

Cheers to 2017! I hope you chase your wildest dreams this year + stay inspired! ✈ ✈ ✈

Holy moly! Yes, I must agree that 2017 is looking to be your best year EVER. And I can’t wait to follow along vicariously on these adventures! Iceland and Southeast-Asia-with-no-particular-return-date both look very intriguing. But the trip I most envy in your line-up is your hiking trip with your dad. Well … best wishes to you, and happy new year!

Thanks, Krista! I have a Garmin watch that tracks mileage and when I forget that at home, my husband and I screenshot our iPhones before a hike and then again at the end of it. They’re usually slightly different, so we average them to error on the lower side.

When are you going to be there? If we’re there at the same time we should meet up for a cup of coffee or a beer! I’ll be there in February.

Well I have to agree with you. It might just be the best year yet! I love your hiking goal. That’s such a great thing to do and to involve friends and fam is awesome. You’ll have so much fun in SE Asia though I can’t wait to hear what you think of Nepal. I LOVED Nepal so so much. It’s one of those places I want to go back to again. Have safe travels and a happy year!

I hope that you have the best year yet as well! I’m sure I’ll love Nepal – it’s been at the top of my list for awhile now, but I’ll have to check out your blog for some tips! I really enjoy the hiking miles goal because it pushes me to get outside more and I do urge my people get outside with me which leads to memories that last a lifetime! Thanks for reading and I hope you have a happy new year! Xx
