Big Spring State Park, Missouri

The weekend after I got back from my road trip, Nick and I decided to meet up and Van Buren, Missouri  is where we ended up meeting!  Nick had never really done anything in Missouri, besides pass through, so we made the best of meeting there by exploring a bit, and we found Big Spring State Park.  I guess, technically it isn’t a state park anymore because Missouri donated it to the National Riverways, but regardless, it’s pretty great!

There’s a paved, wheelchair accessible path all the way up to the spring, so everyone can enjoy it.

This is one of the top three biggest springs in all of the United States (with the other two being in Idaho and Florida).  Big Spring has an average daily flow of 286 million gallons of water every single day!  Crazy!

There is a trail around the spring, but neither of us really had the shoes to do this on a misty day; I can’t wait to go back and do it!

The Current River runs through this park, and it’s absolutely beautiful!

Nick and I drove to where the park ends up in the forest, which in it’s own desolate way was really beautiful!  I bet in the summer it’s a completely different type of lush beauty!
