Family Road Trip to Texas (Days 4-7)

The past three days of our family road trip to texas have been spent in Galveston, which let’s face it, there isn’t too much to do but lay on the beach.  I’m not going to lie, I’m not a huge fan of the beach.  I think it’s pretty, it sounds cool, but do not make me sit there all day long!  I apologize for fewer pictures than usual, but hopefully you’ll enjoy the few that are here.

Day 4:  We drove here from San Antonio, but the day was pretty uneventful.  We took the girls (my mom’s puppies) for a walk on the beach and laughed at them trying to run away from the waves.  Then we drove around the city, and through neighborhoods of adorable, brightly colored houses on stilts!  They’re gorgeous!  Then that night we went to the Original Mexican Cafe.  I got chicken enchiladas; they were really tasty!

Day 5: My mom and I were going to go on mansion tours of the Moody Mansion and Bishop’s Palace.  Well, if you plan to do these the tours only run on the hour, so be there in time to catch it.  We were there at 12:04 and couldn’t get on a tour.  We didn’t really want to wait an hour to walk through a house.  Plus, it was going to be thirty dollars for the two of us to take the tour.  We opted out an instead got afternoon teas before joining my dad and brother on the beach.  For dinner, we went to Miller’s Restaurant.  It was pretty good.  We all got something different, but everyone agreed my chicken tenders and mashed potatoes were the best thing there!  After dinner we took the Galveston-Port Bolivar Ferry System, which was my favorite thing of the night.  I will offer one very important piece of advice though, do not wear a skirt!  The wind really blows out there on the ocean.  I loved the views from the ferry, including dolphins!  Plus, it’s free!  So another great budget travel stop!

Day 6:  I spent a big chunk of the afternoon at the beach.  I had more fun than I thought I would after I finally got in the ocean.  Let me elaborate on why I am not a beach fan… It smells like fish, you can’t see your feet in the ocean here, there are things that will eat you in the ocean, there’s sand that sticks to you and get all up in your stuff, and never seems to go away, it’s really hot, and I’ve driven or flown how many miles just to lay beside the ocean, when I can do that at a pool in town.  We went back to the Original Mexican Cafe, and I had the Spinach Chicken Enchiladas.  Again, super yummy.  We drove back through town looking at all the houses and such, it was a really nice evening.  Then we went back to the room and packed our bags, ready to say goodbye to Galveston.

Day 7:  Today was the last day of vacation.  We drove 13 hours from Galveston back to Missouri.  I’m now blogging from the comfort of my couch with my wonderful boyfriend beside me 🙂

Hope everyone is having a great day, and had a great week!  Thanks for reading!

It was really fun, but you’re right… It’s so great to be home! Although, I’m already planning out my next big trip!
