Getting My Kicks in Seligman, Arizona (Old Route 66)

Last week I found myself in the city of Seligman, Arizona.  It was a city that until I decided to hike Havasu Canyon I had never heard of, and the only reason I heard about it then is that I was forced to drive through it to get to Havasu Canyon.

However, when we pulled off the interstate, on to Old Route 66 and into Seligman I realized that this was a cool little town.  It was totally a tourist destination and only a place that you could spend a day or an evening, but I had a lot of kitschy charm to it.

We stayed at the Stagecoach 66 right as you enter town, and it looks just like all of those old pictures you see of Route 66 with the fun, brightly colored sign and the outdoor entrances to all the rooms.  The hotel was very reasonably priced ($50-ish) and the rooms were very clean and the manager was really helpful and accommodating.  They offered hot chocolate, coffee and pastries in the morning for breakfast and it was a fun experience being in that hotel.

We asked the manager if the Roadkill Cafe was good, and she recommended the little cafe across the street, but said that the Roadkill Cafe is more popular because of it’s comical names.  We decided to not follow her advice (I don’t know why I do that…) and we went to the Roadkill Cafe.  It was a fun little restaurant and had quirky decorations, a Route 66 Gift shop and like the manager said, fun names.  However, I didn’t think the service was especially great, and more importantly, nor was the food.  It wasn’t that it was gross or terrible, but it wasn’t good and it was expensive.  So, if I were to go back and have dinner in Seligman, I would go to the cafe across the street.

We had to drive back through Seligman after our trip to Havasu Canyon, and we decided to stop at this adorable little burger joint called Delgadillo’s Snow Cap Burger Stand.  IT WAS DELICIOUS!  Seriously, the best burger I’ve ever had.  Their set-up was adorable, but if you’re looking for fast food, this isn’t the place to go because it took us about 30 minutes to get our food, but it was amazing, reasonably priced and you got a lot of food- well worth the wait!  They also had a lot of fun and quirky outdoor decorations to walk through while waiting on your food.  The people who were working were very friendly and had conversations with all of their customers.  They had great personalities and were just in general, a ton of fun!  We both got burgers, fries and chocolate milk shakes and we left entertained, happy and very full.  I highly recommend Delgadillo’s Snow Cap Burger Stand!  Be sure to hit it up for lunch because it closes early!

Seligman was really an unexpected surprise and a fun piece of American History and it was like seeing a snapshot of Old Route 66 being lived out.

It really was great. I live about a mile from a portion of Old Route 66 and we don’t have any cool little things like this, so I was pleasantly surprised by this! I highly recommend you stopping in if you’re ever around there.
