Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park

Lilly and I decided it was time for a day trip!  So she and I packed up the cooler with a watermelon, some drinks and a couple other snacks and we made the three-hour-drive up to Johnson’s Shut-Ins.

I love taking mini road trips with my friends because it is always a great time sharing stories, laughs and always, always, always singing as loud as humanly possible.

Shut-ins are an area within a river that is mostly blocked by rock and flow is limited.  This makes for a really enjoyable park for us though.  There are tons of tiny waterfalls that you can set and climb in, pools that you can into off of rocks, and you can hike around on the big rocks within the river.  If you visit wear river shoes!  It was a really great time, and after exploring we had a wonderful watermelon picnic that gave me some great memories!

[…] I went up there with Stacey and I was so excited to see her!  It had been a few months since she moved back home, and it was great to see her!  We hiked the trail around to one of the quarries and through the elephant rocks.  They’re so much fun to climb on, and it’s crazy that these things are just resting here in the forest.  Elephant Rocks State Park is about 15 minutes away from Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park, which is my favorite state park in Missouri, so far.  Stacey and I also went there, but sadly my film messed up and I don’t have the photos to share.  However you can read about the park and see other pictures of it in my post from earlier this summer:  HERE.
