Perfect Girls Day in Old Town Spring, Texas

My mother-in-law Monica put together this awesome day trip to Old Town Spring. Originally we were just going to visit Twisted Yarns, an awesome yarn shop I was wanting to visit, but then she remembered that it was right next to this cute artsy community full of unique shops and cafes!

Twisted Yarns was our first stop and it’s actually just about a minute outside of Old Town Spring. The owners are super friendly and we received great customer service. They offer a wide variety of yarns and products. They emphasized that they’re a crochet-friendly shop – this is good news for me since I’m more of a crocheter than a knitter. I bought some beautiful yarn, a gorgeous wooden crochet hook and I even got the most perfect craft bag with turquoise sparrows on it. I call that a success!

The next stop of the day was to Spring Beads. I have a couple of hardcore hobbies and they were both covered in the first two stops. This bead store had a huge selection of glass, metal and stone beads along with lots of unique tools to help you craft the perfect jewelry. They’re not kidding when they say that they’re “the place to bead.”

Brick sidewalks connect picturesque shops, delicious-looking cafes and even the most darling puppy adoption place! We went on a Tuesday and not all of the shops or restaurants were open, although the majority of them were. I would recommend looking up the stores and checking the hours of those you really want to visit.

I love toy shops! Not stores like Toys R Us, but these locally owned kitschy shops with vintage toys and funky alternatives to normal toys. Monica and I had a lot of fun looking at silly things like ‘Hipster ABCs’.

Visiting the German Shop was a must because we’ve both not only been to Germany, but our families both have German roots. So, it was fun going in to see their nutcrackers, cuckoo clocks, german treats and more. Of course, we stopped by the Dutch Girl shop next door and bought some sweet treats for ourselves and our husbands! I can say that the amaretto fudge is top notch!

Thad’s was a shop that I could’ve bought almost every single thing in it. There are lots of gorgeous garden accessories and home decorations that fit my personal style perfectly.

There was another small yarn shop, but it wasn’t open when we stopped by. That didn’t stop me from admiring their adorable yarn decor attached tho their telephone pole outside the store.

I have a bit of a doll-phobia, so this wasn’t my favorite stop, but I can appreciate it for what it is. The Doll Hospital sells new dolls and fixes old dolls if something happens to the doll you already own. How fun is that?

Of course, day trips to cozy towns have to include getting something tasty to eat! So, when Monica and I were first looking up some of the places to eat, I saw the Loose Caboose and I just fell in love with the idea of stopping there.

The Loose Caboose gets its name from the caboose that sits outside. I’m not sure what the history is, or if you can still order in there or what, but it’s just so darling.

Inside feels a bit like a rustic sports bar. There are a handful of different beers on tap, and the menu includes some fried specialties and BBQ. I got the pulled pork sandwich and Monica got the brisket and we were both beyond satisfied with our choices!

I would definitely say that our trip to Old Town Spring was a success! It’s the perfect place to buy special and unique gifts, eat some good food, try some sweets and just have the perfect girls day.

I’m a huge crocheter! I hadn’t been to a really nice yarn shop before though, so it was really exciting for me.

Omg this is so charming! I’d never heard of this area (I really only know about the big cities of Texas) but it sounds like a fab time. Also the Loose Caboose might be the best name ever.

I’m with you, I only know the big cities of Texas, this was all on my mother-in-law! I thought it was a super cute name too! There were lots of cafes there, but this was my pick completely based on the name. Ha!

I love that you have such a wonderful relationship with your mother in law – Old Town Springs sounds like a great place to shop and explore. I love hitting new towns which have independently owned and family run stores – chain stores are so boring! I don’t know how I feel about the doll hospital lol but would be interesting!

I’m very lucky because I have really great in-laws! It was a lot of fun to get to have some quality girl time with her! I love local businesses as well, even though I’m a sucker for target! 😉 I’m actually with you on the doll hospital – I think it’s a bit creepy. They have some very realistic-looking dolls.

This looks like a perfect day in a small, quaint town. Visiting yarn shops with the girls – who would think beyond shopping and movies in the metros? Sounds like you had a fab day trip and Twisted yarns sounds lovely.

What a cute spot! I love the Loose Caboose, I’m such a sucker for train stuff. My MIL is in Cape Cod, so there’s always something great to discover when I go to see her (although obviously none of it is new to my wife). We’re thinking of having her meet us somewhere inland next time so we can explore something new together. I’m excited for when all the parents are really retired so they can join us on our travels more often!

That’s awesome that you’ve been able to explore new things, and I’m sure your wife doesn’t mind seeing some of the old stuff again, but meeting inland sounds like the perfect compromise!

It’s definitely worth a stop. It’s fun to find the cozy, quaint things even near the biggest city in the state!

It really is super relaxing! Plus, if you get really good at crocheting, you could sell cute homemade things along the way (hats, bags, headbands). I sell stuff before trips to help fund them! Not to mention, I love buying things from fellow travelers to help prolong adventures!

This looks like it was a fun day! I love that there are so many unique shops — but I have to agree with you about the doll house shop — it would weird me out a bit! 🙂

Old Town Spring looks like the perfect place for a girls’ weekend getaway. I love how each shop has their own unique design but the Loose Caboose gets my vote!
