Soundtrack to My Travels »» The Wilhelm Brothers

It’s no secret to my readers that one of my travel must-haves is a soundtrack. I love to listen to music that inspires me and opens up my mind for new experiences. For the past couple of months most of my adventures have been domestic, involving lots of hiking and I can’t stop listening to one artist while taking these road trips out into nature and that is The Wilhelm Brothers. This folk band with cello infusion has such positive music with references to nature in many of the songs, which is part of why I love listening to it before exploring the outdoors.

I asked Chris Wilhelm, the songwriter, lead singer & guitarist of The Wilhelm Brothers, if any of these songs were inspired by travels and he told me that the songs Topography, I’ll See You in St. Augustine, and Everywhere and Nowhere were all inspired by their travels. The chorus of Everywhere & Nowhere I think really shows a lot of the feelings that you experience while traveling:

“If this is nowhere, far in between
Is it exactly like you thought it should be
Are we going somewhere, we haven’t seen?
Is it exactly like you thought it should be?”

For me, the song that inspires the most wanderlust, it’s the song that says the word wanderlust. In fact, I was so inspired by this song that before I left Asheville, I set out on a mission to create my very first video staring the nature of Western North Carolina set to their song Diamond Cutter.

Whichever song is your favorite, you’re guaranteed to find positive, inspiring music that you’ll find yourself listening to (and singing to) again & again.

The Wilhelm Brother’s music is available on iTunes & you can listen to them on Spotify and Pandora. Also, be sure to see if you can see them live for an amazing experience!
