Travel Goals 2014- Mid-Year Update

This week’s Wanderlust Wednesday is an update on my travel/blogging goals for 2014!  I’ve been trucking through them and I’m so excited about finishing out the year strong!

Visit a New State

I felt a bit guilty making this goal because I started out the year knowing that I was going to be visiting two new states, but I had no idea just how much I was going to enjoy them!  North Carolina and South Carolina were my two new states.  This photo was from Forrest Gump in Beaufort, SC.

Leave the Country

This was another one I felt guilty about because I knew in January that I was going to be visiting Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein with my amazing mama!  However, I feel a bit less guilty now because I’m going to Sweden for the entire month of July and in September Stacey and I are going to Peru!

Go Hiking with My Dad

Just a couple weeks ago I got to check this off the list because my dad and I took a little weekend trip to go hiking Arkansas!  We went on 4 gorgeous hikes and got to make some pretty incredible memories!  I’m pretty lucky to have such an awesome and adventurous dad!  This photo is from our Hawksbill Crag hike.

Have a ‘Wanderlust Wednesday’ and a ‘Somewhere Saturday’ for every week

So far, so good on this front too!  I’ve struggled more this year with Wanderlust Wednesdays than I have before but, in a way, it’s been even better for me because I’ve had to renew my inspiration instead of just having things come my way.  Photo from a restaurant in Austria.

Read 8 Travel Books/Essays

Turn Right

This is the one that I haven’t been executing as well this year.  I’m currently reading my second book about travel, but I greatly enjoyed learning more about the area I’m going to be exploring in Peru from Turn Right at Machu Picchu.

Get 100 Hiking Miles or Visit 10 New Hiking Locations

IMG_6536 So far this year, I’ve gotten a little over 22 hiking miles (which means I need to get on it!), and I’ve also visited 7 new hiking locations!  I’m sure between living in the Blue Ridge Mountains and hiking the Inca Trail, I’ll have no problem getting plenty of hiking miles in!  Photo from Onondaga Cave State Park.

I love a list!! Especially a goals type list!
    Great round up!
P’s. If you haven’t trekked in Peru before… I warm you now take heed the advice re altitude. Altitude sickness is very real! I won’t go into details but it involved a very embarrassing moment, thinking I was going to freeze to death and a need to drop height!
Trust your body and take it slow if you’re high!

      Thank you so much, Holly!
I haven’t done Peru before and I keep hearing things like that, though! I’m definitely going to take the altitude sickness pills! Did you guys try to use the coca tea at all?
