Wanderlust Wednesday- The Sun Also Rises

I recently read The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway, and now I am trying to figure out a way to make it to Spain within the next year or two.  I’m obsessed!  (I’m even taking Spanish class this semester!) Ha!

This is a novel about some expats that travel from France to Spain and end up at the Festival of San Fermin in Pamplona.  During all this he reflects on death, life and love.  My favorite portion of this book is when he’s at the festival.  He writes about the festivities, the bullfights and how he reacted to the festival:

“The fiesta exploded.  There is no other way to describe it.  People had been coming in all day from the country, but they were assimilated in the town and you did not notice them.  The square was as quiet in the hot sun as any other day.  The peasants were in the out-lying wine-shops.  There they were drinking, getting ready for the fiesta.  They had come in so recently from the plains and the hills that it was necessary that they make their shifting in values naturally.”

“Inside it smelled of fresh tanned leather and hot tar.  A man was stenciling completed wine-skins.  They hung from the roof in bunches.”

“Walking across the square to the hotel everything looked new and changed.  I had never seen the trees before.  I had never seen the flagpoles before, nor the front of the theatre.  It was all different, I felt as I felt once coming home from an out-of-town football game.”

It’s one of Hemingway’s classics, and usually referred to as one of his most famous works.  It’s a classic, and it’s something that shouldn’t be missed!  What books have you guys read that make you want to travel?
