When we were in Koh Chang we decided that we were craving movement and exploration. So, Matt found Bang Bao Pier. The next day, we were heading that way. We started off walking, but as I mentioned in my previous Koh Chang post, the roads here are insane with zero shoulder and just drop-offs. So about halfway there, we jumped in the back of a truck and rode the rest of the way.
Bang Bao Pier is a nice little pier lined with shops, restaurants and amazing views! We loved looking in all the different booths at the trinkets and wandering down tiny boardwalk paths that led to some of the most quaint buildings I’ve ever seen. At the end of the boardwalk is a gorgeous white-washed lighthouse. Even though all we did was wander around for a couple of hours we still seriously loved this stop.
Seriously, Bang Bao Pier is amazing. It’s like turquoise overload!ย
Among many other trinkets and things were rows ofย wind chimes made up of seashells.

Small boardwalks led back toย restaurants + guesthouses. It was soย quaint.
Of course, boats of all shapes and sizes dock at the pier and just off of it.ย
ย
Left: The Pier wasย flooded at one point and boards were missing. This wasย definitely unique for me.ย However, it was just business asย usual for locals + tourists. // Right: The gorgeousย lighthouse at the end ofย Bang Bao Pier.
Like I said, our trip down to Bang Bao Pier was very short and sweet, but it was my very favorite part of our trip to Koh Chang. It was fun to explore and discover the quaintness of this area.

January 14, 2018 at 12:51 amI am currently in Thailand and haven’t made it to the beaches yet. This looks like a serious contender. Your photos are stunning! I love the turquoise blues.

January 14, 2018 at 6:32 pmThank you so much! Koh Chang is gorgeous and then my husband (photographer for the site) created a Lightroom Preset specifically for the beach to bring out those tone. They’re available in our shop, if you’re interested! ๐

January 14, 2018 at 3:40 amThis is really cute! I love the look of all the little shops and the vibrancy of the white lighthouse at the end of the jetty (in Australia we call them jetties, not piers). I like that part of the jetty was flooded and that the locals just accept it as the way that it is! To me that’s very quintessential Southeast Asia.

January 14, 2018 at 6:33 pmThat’s really interesting! I didn’t know that they were called jetties! You’re right that the flooding is totally Southeast Asia. It’s a great place to gain that go-with-the-flow mindset.

January 14, 2018 at 8:34 amThe Bang Bao Pier in Koh Chang is so adorable and just reading your description of turquoise overload fills my mind’s eye with stunning pictures. We are trying to pick an island to go to in Thailand and are so spoilt for choice right now, its not funny anymore ๐

January 14, 2018 at 6:35 pmThere are so many to choose from, aren’t there? We chose this one based upon location alone, but we were not disappointed.

January 15, 2018 at 10:05 amIt’s fun to see the colors and shell “garland” they had for sale. I’m sure that they’re totally used to the area during high tide/flooding as you mentioned! It seems like a great day trip!

January 16, 2018 at 1:30 amBang Bao Pier is so cool – I’ve never been to Koh Chang but I’d love to now! I really love those seashell wind chimes, they are so intricate and pretty (I’d love some myself!). I think the lighthouse at the end of the pier is the best thing though!

January 16, 2018 at 12:53 pmBeautiful! We visited Koh Chang way back in 2009 but I don’t remember hearing anything about Bang Boa Pier. I wonder if there were any guest houses and shops over that way so long ago or if it has all been developed more recently. Either way it certainly looks like it’s worth a stop on our next trip to Thailand. Lovely pics and a great post!

January 16, 2018 at 7:14 pmLove that lighthouse! I canโt recall seeing any lighthouses when we traveled around Thailand. The rest of the pier looks very quaint. Were there also vendors selling street food there?
