Sambath Residence Review – Luxury in Siem Reap for $26/night

One of the joys of traveling through Southeast Asia is its incredible affordability. This allowed Matt and me to treat ourselves to some amazing luxury experiences while still staying within (and usually under) our $72/day max budget. One of those luxury experiences was our stay at Sambath Residence in Siem Reap. We originally booked three nights at this place and ended up staying 2 weeks because it quickly became a little home away from home for us in Siem Reap.

Checking In to Sambath Residence

Our check-in process actually has two parts because we inadvertently had to do so twice, but that’s where our love for this place started. We arrived to Sambath Residence after a very long day of travel from Koh Chang, Thailand via ferry, mini van and bus. We were exhausted and realized upon arrival that I had booked our stay at Sambath Residence not for that night, but the next night, and they were completely booked. I was so disheartened because we were so exhausted. The amazing staff at Sambath Residence immediately took over helping us out. They first provided us with an amazing fresh fruit drink and a cool towel to wipe our faces with, then went to work getting us a place to stay that night. They called their sister company and got us a room there and then drove us there and told us they’d see us the next day. Talk about customer service!

Our second check-in was just as pleasant. We were greeted once again with a smile, fresh juice and a cool washcloth. While they added the finishing touches to our room, we relaxed in their open air lobby. Then we were led to our gorgeous room through the oasis surrounding their gorgeous pool. They even helped us with our bags.

Our Room – Deluxe Double Room

Sambath Residence offers two types of rooms: Deluxe Doubles and Deluxe Twins. The rooms are in these darling two-storied  brick bungalows: one room on top, one room on bottom. Each has a terrace or balcony with a nice seating area and garden view. We stayed in a ground floor double room and loved everything about it.

Let’s Start with the Bathroom

One of the first things that drew me to booking this luxury room over another was their soaking tubs. I’m a huge fan of relaxing baths but hadn’t had one the entire time we were in Southeast Asia. In addition to the gorgeous bathtub (which they filled with flowers for us on our arrival), there’s a shower with wonderful water pressure. They provide wonderfully scented shower gel shampoo + soap. Because there was a daily maid service we never had to ask for more soaps or toilet tissue.

The Room

The room was very clean upon arrival and the daily maid service kept it spotless. Our bed was incredibly comfortable, which isn’t always the case in Southeast Asia. And there were four pillows, which I always love! The room includes a darling sitting area by the window, which is great because we spent so much time here it was like having a little living room to work from. The room also included a tv, coffee/tea maker, vanity and mini fridge!

The Garden + Pool at Sambath Residence

Matt loves when we find a place with a gorgeous swimming pool and this was hands-down his favorite of all the pools in Southeast Asia. Actually, it was my favorite too. Their pool was always incredibly clean and had a shallow and deep end which made it perfect for anyone to enjoy. On the shallow end, there was a bench seat with jacuzzi jets as well. Since it was a bit too hot for a hot tub while we were there, we enjoyed getting to have the massage of the jet while in cool water. The area around the pool is surrounded by large plants which made it feel even more tropical and secluded. There are several lounge chairs surrounding the pool as well, which is perfect for working on your tan or just relaxing. Clean pool towels are laid out on chairs each day. Drink service is also available poolside.

Breakfast at Sambath Residence

Breakfast is served daily in their gorgeous open-air restaurant. We became friends with the hard-working and incredibly sweet Bunthoeurn who ended up having our order memorized within days. Their breakfast is plentiful, filling and truly delicious. They offer several difference options, but my favorite was their omelette. Again, one of the best we had in Southeast Asia.

Other Notable Amenities at Sambath Residence

⋙ Wifi is available throughout the property and has great speed and connectivity. Part of the reason we settled in here was the ability to work comfortably and easily.

⋙ They have a free shuttle service into town. Sambath Residence sits a bit outside of town (it’s walkable, but it’s a long dirty walk). Not to worry, anywhere in the Old Town area is a free tuk-tuk ride away. You can even arrange a pickup time and place! We often had them drop us off on Pub Street for lunch and had them pick us up at the grocery store two hours later. It’s a phenomenal service!

⋙ In addition to serving breakfast, they also have a full service restaurant for your other meals that are reasonably priced and very tasty.

⋙ Laundry service is available for a small fee and priced per kilo.

Any Negatives?

The only negative experience was technically out of their control, and they still took care of us. There was a 48 hour period where the power would shut on and off, but this was due to construction in the area blowing breakers (and power issues aren’t uncommon in Cambodia, I experienced them both times I visited the country). We would often sit in the lobby area when the power was out because our room would get quite dark and hot. They gave us something to drink both times we did this and in the end even took extra care of us when it was time to pay. Seriously, the customer service here is just truly incredible!

All that’s left is booking your luxury experience at Sambath Residence in Siem Reap.

Other than a business trip to Dubai, I haven’t traveled in Asia. Certainly never in Cambodia. I am just blown away at the luxurious accommodations that you enjoyed at those rates! It must be hard to travel to more expensive countries and adjust! 🙂

You completely sold me on this place! I love baths more than anything so having the opportunity to soak in a tub with flowers sounds great. I love the look of the pool as well. And as a non-driver, having the shuttle into town seems great too.

Wow that is so cheap, I went to Siem Reap in 2011. Would love to go back and stay in a place like this and just chill because I have seen the touristic places in Siem Reap. Sambath looks like heaven, good for relaxing and romantic trip and also photos. The flowers really makes a difference as well, looks fantastic 😀

That is such a great deal for all the service and amenities you get. I’ve always wanted to take a bath filled with petals! Great that the wifi works wonderfully and that the food was plentiful. Sucks that the electricity went out, but like you said, it really wasn’t something they could control.

The Sambath Residency experience sure sounds top notch. Of course the place looks lovely, especially the bath tubs. But I guess what wins and endears is the personalized customer service, it shows the hospitality of the hotel and it it is always such a pleasure to stay in a hotel that has a heart. I was really surprised that this lovely place costs as low as $28 a night. That is incredible value for money.
