I wanted to see the beach in Beaufort, SC, and I asked Ellen which beach she though was worth visiting, and she said that Hunting Island State Park is her favorite beach. The more she described it, the more I wanted to go there! She told me that the drive in was like driving through a forest- and it totally was!!! It was so beautiful! I love when a forest opens up and you are suddenly on the beach, and that’s exactly how this was!
Absolutely AMAZING!
Also, in Hunting Island State Park, is the Hunting Island Lighthouse, which is totally worth the $2 to climb the 167 steps to the top. This was the first of the lighthouses that the Confederates destroyed during the Civil War in order to keep the Union from using as a source of navigation.
When you finally make it to the top of the 167 stairs, you are able to get a really incredible 360° view! These were my favorite views:
There is a fee to enter this State Park, and I think that it is totally worth every penny. The beach wasn’t crowded at all (although, I’m sure it’s much busier in the summer), the area was stunning, and there was more than just a beach there! So fun!

March 18, 2014 at 3:22 pmThanks, Jeremy! I also love beaches with forests that go up to them. Beaches aren’t my favorite things, but the more I see beaches like this, the more and more I’m warming up to them. Thanks for reading!
