I had a bit of an adventure trying to do the Hawksbill Crag hike earlier this spring, getting stuck up Cave Mountain Road and feeling a bit defeated, we made our way to a different hike.
This time, though, I was hiking with my dad and we came armed with a 4-wheel-drive truck instead of my tiny Hyundai Accent. I was so excited to be doing this hike and I’m so glad that my dad was okay with doing it again because it didn’t disappoint. This hike is only 3 miles round trip but it’s one of the most photographed landmarks in Arkansas. Hawksbill Crag is a bluff that stretches out over the trees and it comes to a point that looks like, you guessed it, a hawk’s bill.
We walked through the woods, pouring sweat from the intense humidity until it opens up and you can see the Ozark Mountains and tons of trees. We walked out on other, smaller bluffs to try to catch a peek of the crag and photograph it without anyone on it. Then came the fun…
My dad using his mad photography skills
Vertigo? I think so!
We took turns posing on the rock, and then a man generously offered to take a picture of the both of us because he was waiting on the rest of his company to catch up! So cool!
I love these father/daughter moments
It was the perfect day to hike through the woods, jump on a bluff in the Ozarks and spend time with my awesome dad before I moved to Asheville! (More to come from our Arkansas Adventures!)
