This last weekend my boyfriend Matt came to Missouri from Asheville to meet my family and spend some time with me. It was so much fun playing tour guide to my own personal history. I showed him my childhood home, my university, my favorite spots downtown, some of my favorite country roads and other places from my past.
My favorite spot to take Matt was Fellow’s Lake out by my parents’ house. It’s been a huge part of my past. My parents took my brother and me there to play as kids, I would go there to read and study in college, I had picnics with friends and all kinds of other little adventures. So, yesterday I took Matt there, and took him to the “secret spot” down this fairly steep path of tree roots and rocks.
Then, you climb down a couple steps down the rock cliff, and you’re on this little natural rock-face that kind-of makes a bench that overlooks the lake. Matt and I sat looking out over the lake for a while, just taking in the beauty and enjoying our time together.
Matt walked down to the edge of the lake and was “showing me how to skip rocks”. It was a pretty windy day, so the water was choppy… But he still looked really cute doing it! Ha!
Matt saw this other area over to the left so we braved narrow rock ledges and walk through tree branches to get to it… It wasn’t that scary, but my hair and sweater did get completely tangled in a tree branch. Ha!
Matt and I stood there looking out at the lake, excited about how lucky we were to be in such a pretty place, in 70-degree-weather in February. Matt had his arms around me as he started telling me how much I meant to him. I turned and hugged him back and was just enjoying the moment when he said, “There’s just one question to ask.” and he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I was so excited that I met him on the ground hugging him and crying. Yesterday, on this little adventure in my own hometown, I agreed to marry the most amazing man I have ever met!
It was so perfect that he chose a natural spot- since we’re both nature-lovers- and he surprised me by making a place that was already special to me the most special place in the world to me! I know, that this isn’t a travel-post, but I wanted to share the best and easiest decision I’ve ever made, and introduce you all to my future-husband (who will obviously be on here a lot) and share with you a whole new journey in my life with a man who supports me and encourages me every day to never stop exploring!
P.S. I HAVE to share what my new last name will be! Are you ready for this?! WUNDER!!!! How freakin’ perfect is that?! ♥︎
Here’s to many new adventures of any & every kind!
