Big News » For the Love of Wanderlust is going ‘Round the World

W A N D E R L U S T   W E D N E S D A Y

Well, I am getting on my flight back to the States from Asia today and I thought what better Wanderlust Wednesday to have than to announce the next HUGE adventure that will be happening on For the Love of Wanderlust. In 2017 Matt and I are hoping to take on the world as newlyweds… Literally. Matt and I have decided that we want to do a ’round the world trip! Our vague plan (it is about a 1.5 years away) is to do the trip in three large chunks (the Americas, Europe & Africa, Asia & Oceania). We plan on coming home for a few months in between continents to make a little money & because we’re both very family oriented. We’re still in the planning & dreaming process. We each have made a list of our top 10, and we’re going to definitely hit those 20 countries, then fill in the gaps with some extra adventures. Wanna see our top 20?

New Zealand

Matt says that New Zealand looks super adventurous and great for the outdoors. They seem to have it all – mountains, oceans, all that good stuff!

australia

Australia is high on Matt’s list because he’s always wanted to visit the Great Barrier Reef. He wants to snorkel & scuba dive… We’ll see if he gets me in the water with the Great Whites lurking around the corner 😉  Plus, I’m dying to meet up with some Instagram friends from all over this country.

London

Matt lived in London as a kid, and he wants to come back to where he lived then and where his parents lived while he was in college in the States. I can’t wait for him to show me part of his history and some of the amazing museums and parks he wants to revisit!

italy

When I asked Matt why Italy, he said, “Gelato. Pizza. Catching jellyfish at the beach.” Ha! I totally agree with the first two, but that third one seemed a bit odd, until he explained that the last time he was there he was in second grade. So now he’s excited to fully enjoy it as an adult.

Canada

“BANFF!!!!!”, Matt says about Canada. He thinks- well, we both think -that the Canadian Rockies are beautiful and we want more of it! I’m excited to see a place that we’ve both loved separately together.

This spot used to belong to the Bahamas until I visited Bali on my trip. Matt decided that he wants to experience the physical and cultural beauty of it. He wants to see the temples, the volcano, and the monkey forest, and I’m now always ready for a trip to Bali!

france

Matt says, like aspects of Italy, he feels he was a bit too young to appreciate Paris. So, he wants to return to the Louvre, being the romantic that he is, he wants to kiss me on top of the Eiffel Tower and stuff our faces with bread as well! Sounds good to me!

China

Matt lived in Beijing for a couple of years as well, so he’s excited to show me where they lived, and to take me to The Great Wall of China. I love that Matt is so passionate about sharing his personal history with me.

Matt wants to see this beautiful site, and even though I joked on the Inca Trail that whoever I marry had better have already hiked the Inca Trail because I wasn’t doing it again, I think that Matt and I are going to have an amazing and completely different adventure on this stunning hike! Also, there’s so much more in Northern Peru that I’m dying to see as well.

Portugal

Matt says that he thinks that this would be another good place to relax. I’m so glad that he has thought about the fact that we’ll need some relaxation time because I’m so go, go, go!

Cuba

Cuba has been at the top of my list for a while. I’m dying to get here while it still looks like taking a little step back into life in the 1950’s.  Plus, I love the idea of getting a look at Hemingway’s Havana.

India

India has honestly been at the absolute top of my list for about a decade, but opportunities to do different things always come up, but I have put this as a mega-priority for this trip! I want to attend the Holi Festival – the Hindu festival of love (pictured above and inspiration for the color runs) and the Kumbh Mela – the Hindu pilgrimage to bathe in one of the holy rivers… I think I want to go to the Ganges!

Sri Lanka

I studied Religious Studies at MSU, and focused my studies on Eastern Religion. My favorite professor taught me so much about Buddhism and Hinduism. His emphasis was in Sri Lankan Theravada Buddhism, so I felt that I learned a lot about this and have wanted to visit for about 7 years now.

Bosnia

I’ve realized that I haven’t spent any time in Eastern Europe, and that’s truly a shame. I remember a few years ago I saw a Rick Steve’s Europe episode on Bosnia, and I fell in love with the views of the city of Mostar and I’m excited to get to see it!

czech republic

Czech Republic has been on my mind since I first saw The Brothers Bloom and they show some of these stunning views of Prague. Plus, I keep hearing that Prague is one of the top places to visit if you like beer. Yes, please!

Kenya

I would absolutely love to spend a lot of time in Kenya. Taking safaris, sleeping in Giraffe Manor and camping with the Maasai people. I just love, love, love all the daydreams running through my head for this country! Get ready, Matt. We’ve got a lot to fit into this country.

Mexico

Mexico is my only “repeat” country. I have technically visited Mexico, but I was on a resort for all of it except for a little trip to Chichen Itza & Ik Kil Cenote. So, I’m pretty stoked for Matt and I to get out and really spend some time in our neighbor to the south.

CostaRica

For me, Costa Rica seems to have it all. Rainforests to hike in, animals to see, beaches to relax on and all sorts of other outdoorsy adventures! A perfect blend for Matt and me!

columbia

Colombia is on my list thanks to my friend, Sherwin. He explored here for a few months last year and I could hardly pull myself away from my computer while I scrolled through his Instagram and Facebook feeds. So, this country is now in my top 10 and I cannot wait to explore!

ecuador

Ecuador is also on my top 10 thanks to Sherwin! I cannot wait to explore this country with Matt and a big thing on my to-do list is to go on a date with Matt to The Swing at the Edge of the World.

I’m excited to see how Matt and I connect all these countries and what will fall in between them. I have always dreamed of making an Round-the-World trip, and I’m so happy to have met someone who is helping me make this dream come true! I’m so excited for this trip and more. I love that Matt has brought this little mantra into my life – NEVER STOP EXPLORING – and I truly believe that we’re going to live a life of adventure!
