On the same day that we went on a snowy ride through the mountains of Western North Carolina, we basically turned a corner and the snow was basically gone. Nick was showing me a lot of different backroads and we decided to make an impromptu stop at Hot Springs, NC, a stop on the Appalachian Trail (in fact the only town on the trail in NC)!
This is a small town that sits right on the French Broad River and sets in the middle of these gorgeous mountains. It’s so easy to completely fall in love with this place.
We stopped in at the Hot Springs Resort and Spa and got a half an hour in the mineral baths. (I had never been to a natural hot spring, but I had imagined actually sitting in a hot river, however, this is not at all what it was.) Basically, it’s a hot tub filled with the mineral water, but it was walled off for privacy and it was so much fun!
The drive back to Asheville was absolutely spectacular and even easier to enjoy after a mineral bath.
