Max Patch, Asheville and More: Adventures with My Brother

My big brother, Cory, was my very first Asheville visitor, and it was so much fun getting to play tour guide for the first time!  It had been a couple of months since moving away, so it was so good to get a taste of home and spend time with my brother! Plus, he brought my cute little puppy home to me (my parents watched him for me while I was in Sweden).

Cory and I did the Max Patch Hike together his first full day here. It takes a little over an hour to get there from Asheville, but is totally worth the drive. Max Patch is a bald mountain and is part of the Appalachian Trail.  You can choose between 1.4 or 2.4 mile loop hikes and when you reach the top you have beautiful 360 degree views of the mountains! It’s pretty beautiful!

I had so much fun showing Cory Asheville’s quirky downtown and getting a taste of the foods here, but even more than restaurants we hit up a few different breweries!

In a fun turn of events my Couchsurfing hosts from Memphis were passing through Asheville! It was so great to see them, hear about their adventures and we got to have flights of beer and dessert together. It’s amazing the friends you make while traveling, and this right here is one of the many amazing reasons to Couchsurf on your next trip!

Cory and I also had a Parkway day together. He had hurt his foot, so hiking was postponed for his next visit. But we got to see some gorgeous views and spend quality time together. This was the first time he has ever let me drive him for longer than 3 minutes and he was even super patient when I got us lost for about 30-45 minutes trying to find Looking Glass Falls! Ha!

Just a few of our many failed attempts at an epic jumping photo on the Parkway…

Proof that we did in fact make it to Looking Glass Falls!

It was so great to finally get to share some of the things that I love about Asheville with someone and Cory was a very patient guinea pig and was open to trying everything! I miss him a lot, so it was great to get to spend a few days of quality one-on-one time together in beautiful Western North Carolina.
