My First Road Trip Living in NC: Carrboro-Chapel Hill-Durham

When I moved to Asheville last month, Liz and Lina had planned a little ‘Welcome Home’ road trip for me to go see First Aid Kit in Carrboro! Making this my first road trip in my new home state!  So, the three of us packed up and took off on a awesome overnight trip!

We made a little pitstop in Greensboro to see where Liz grew up!  It was a fun little side adventure and we stopped at one of Liz’s childhood favorites- Yum Yum!  This tiny little dive is located on the UNCG campus and they sell hot dogs and ice cream!  I was a little shocked by the color of my hot dog, but worry not, this pink dog was super delicious, and I enjoyed my light and refreshing peach ice-cream.  My whole meal was under $4!

We made it to Carrboro, but we had about half an hour or so before we could check in, so what do three girls from Asheville do?  We get a beer of course!  And being the Asheville snobs we are, we got Gaelic Ale from Highland Brewing Company.

After drinks, we checked in, got ready for the show and grabbed some dinner.  After dinner and another drink, we made our way to The Cat’s Cradle to go see First Aid Kit!

For those of you who don’t know, First Aid Kit is a folk band from Sweden.  The two sisters sing crazy-beautiful harmonies and their lyrics are so great.  I have had the pleasure of seeing them once before and I actually met Klara brieflyThey put on a truly fantastic show, with a good mix of songs from all of their albums, a Bob Dylan cover and the greatest cover of Simon and Garfunkle’s ‘America‘; I’ve cried both times I’ve heard that live! We had such a great time and truly enjoyed this show so much, that when we while drinking one more drink before going to bed, we bought tickets to see them again in Asheville this fall!

The next day we had breakfast and then made our way to explore the campuses of UNC and Duke.  Both made me want to go home and watch university-themed movies (I totally watched Mona Lisa Smile days after this trip! Ha!)

Hey, Brian! It was a really nice trip, and I’m attempting to let it grow, but I’m on the verge of doing something drastic! Ha! Hope you’re doing well and staying out of trouble!

Thanks for the little road trip. I love the card catalog in the library. So much better than looking up books on a computer. Must like them because I am an analog type person. I like the smell of the oak and the feel of the cards. Silly, I know.

I’m with you! I love all the “low-tech” options. There’s something about being able to touch things that I love- so, not silly at all!
