Olympic National Park- Coastal Areas

My family took a trip in ’03 up and down the Oregon Coast, and it was unlike any other ocean experience I’d ever had.  So, when I saw that pictures of Olympic National Park’s coast were similar to the Oregon Coast, I got very excited!

We drove down to Ruby Beach and sat there for a while watching the waves roll in and crash into these huge rocks that are out in the ocean.  This beach was made up of these small rocks that were perfect little smooth circles that my dad and brother tried to skip between the waves.  I sat on a big piece of driftwood watching them and taking in the nature around me, just relaxing in the cool breeze.

The night before we picked Cory up in Seattle my dad and I went to La Push to go to the beaches.  We went to Beach 1 first.  It was so cold, but we got in about knee deep before turning back.  We chased the waves, wrote in the sand and watched amazed as all these little kids were swimming in that freezing cold water!  Crazy kids!

We went to eat at River’s Edge Restaurant, which is basically the only restaurant in La Push, but it was really good!  I had the fried clams, my dad had the fish and chips and we both had their clam chowder.  We both really enjoyed our food and the waitress there was talking to us about her favorite beach: Beach 2.

Beach two was one of my favorite hikes that we did.  It’s less than two miles roundtrip on the actual trail, but it’s through a really neat section of the rainforest with all kinds of funky-shaped trees and then it opens up to the coastline.  This was my favorite beach by dar.  There were all these crazy, cool rock formations.  Some even have trees growing on them and there was an arch that the water would spray through when the waves crashed in.  We walked up and own the beach, and then sat on this huge dead tree for about 45 minutes watching the tide roll in.
