September 2025: A Monthly Roundup

September brought with it the month of fall. The reminder that darkness and decay are part of rebirth, and offers up a time to settle into a cozier season.

Travel Planning This Month

We didn’t do a ton of trip planning this month. We’ve vaguely talked about wanting to start planning our next Nomad Summer, but between me getting back to work, Matt’s work being extremely busy and everything else that life throws at families, we haven’t actually sat down to do this yet.

Travel This Month

I took my 11-day solo road trip. I was really good for me to have space for clarity, for adventure and to come back refreshed and ready for the changing of the season. I did a lot of hikes I’d never done before and am constantly amazed by just how much Moab has to offer. The adventures are never-ending, and even repeating adventures never feels stagnant. Moab is a place where I always come back to myself. From the moment I went there at 22, I felt like I was alive and me. Here I am, 14 years later, getting that same feeling every single time I’ve been there.

Blog Posts from September

Oof. September was a month that I planned to write a lot on my solo trip, but instead, I lived, I relaxed and I even caught up with friends. So, alas, there is only one post from September.

August 2025: A Monthly Roundup – This is a monthly roundup, just like this one, from last month.

Local Adventures in September

We spent Labor Day down at the creek as a family and Shea’s family came as well! We had so much fun and it was the perfect end-of-creek-season play! We’ll have to transition into a different outdoor play situation as the temps continue to stay cool, but I love a challenge.

The kids and I went to the zoo a couple of times this month. While I was in Moab, Matt took the kids to the Ozarks Public Television 50th Birthday Party and that created some of the greatest photos and videos of Liam that I’ve ever seen. (Cue terrified reaction to Elmo and Cookie Monster.) There were games and snacks and I was so jealous that I didn’t get to go, but super proud of Matt for taking the kids. I also went to coffee shops and on walks to gardens. I even hosted 2 Women’s Hiking Club meetups!

Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.

Best Thing I Ate in September

Okay, this may sound controversial, but this hot dog! Haha! I have a bit of a love for hotdogs that would probably surprise a lot of people. So, when I had (unwisely) done an eleven mile hike without eating anything, coming back to Moab Food Truck Park to find Moab Street Dogs serving up a delicious hot dog with a poppyseed bun, cheddar cheese, fried onions, dill pickle, honey mustard and potato chips… There was nothing else on earth I would’ve rather put in my mouth, and it was incredible!

What I Read in September

I finally finished Your Guide to Forest Bathing and I did enjoy it, but don’t think that it would be a book I would purchase again. I don’t know really what I was expecting from it, but it did honestly seem like something that I could gleam the information from bullet points. I have started The Nature Fix and I’m enjoying it a lot. It’s just a little slow-going because of my schedule these days.

On audiobook, I finally listened to Pride and Prejudice. I’d only ever watched series and movies and loved them, but it was fun being more immersed in the world through the details of the book. There are free books on Audible that I’ve been enjoying: Behind a Locked Door, The Summer Girl, and The Return of Ruby Darling. I’ve currently on the Gender Games series, which I’m really enjoying.

Best Hikes in Northwest Arkansas

Best Hikes in Northwest Arkansas: I honestly love when this post does so well because I love showing off the beauty of the Ozarks. Plus, fall is the perfect time of year to hike in the Ozarks.

Most Popular Instagram Post and Reel in September

My most popular Instagram Post is from my first hike on my Moab trip: Aztec Butte in Canyonlands National Park. This hike was a lot of fun because it was a totally new trail for me and took me to a couple really interesting archaeological sites. My most popular post was one from off-roading in Moab this month!

Wild Motherhood Update

September was a bit of a stagnant month for me as far as changing up my motherhood habits or, honestly, even about getting outside with the kids as much as normal. Realistically, I was gone for 1/3 of the month, I worked a fair amount, and Matt was packed at work. But life is about balance and I know that some months I’ll thrive and be much better at this and other months I won’t.

Home and Life Updates in September

I have had a lot of fun with my friends this month. From breakfast dates to drinks to candle making – it’s been a great month for that!

We got our house decorated for Halloween! We love having fun with this holiday and we love hosting friends and family for dinner and trick-or-treating.

The kids’ school does a kid cafe each year where they serve the parents a snack and we get to see all the skills they’ve been learning! Matt was unable to attend, so Shea came with me so each of the kids would have someone with them for their activities and it was so much fun and so cute!

What’s Happening in October

In October, we have a couple concerts that we’re going to: we’re taking CJ to her first concert to see Chappell Roan, and Matt and I have pit passes for Twenty One Pilots, which is even more exciting now because since we purchased the tickets, they released a new album and announced that they’d be stepping back from shows for a while.

We have some fun fall festivals and activities planned in the Ozarks, and I’m hoping to sneak in a couple of day hikes while the kids are in school.

I hope that everyone had a great September and that your October is filled with only good things, fall festivities and memories made.
