Turn Right at Machu Picchu by Mark Adams

Turn Right

Wanderlust Wednesday

In preparations for my upcoming trip to Peru in September, I read Mark Adams’ book, following Hiram Bingham III’s trek through the Andes that led him to “discovering” Machu Picchu!  This book was the perfect blend of history and travel tale.

This book wasn’t one of those stories that inspired me want to just get out and see the world, like some travel books have, but it was one that I am so glad I read before visiting Machu Picchu,  This was so specific to Andean archaeology, and its history.  I felt like I was hiking alongside Mark, with his entertaining anecdotes, and I loved that he wasn’t just a super-star hiker- it was so relatable!  I learned a lot about Peruvian culture (both past and present) and I cannot wait to go experience some of these amazing sites and hikes firsthand!

If you’re traveling to Peru (and visiting any Andean archaeological sites) I highly, highly, highly recommend this book!
