Wanderlust Wednesday- Movies That Inspire Travel

Yesterday my boyfriend and I went to see the new Woody Allen film Midnight in Paris.  It was instant wanderlust!  I had no intention of returning to Paris anytime soon, but now I’m hooked on Paris… again!

I genuinely think that the word wanderlust is the word that describes me; I have a hunger for travel and learning about culture!  There are many things that make me want to travel from movies, magazines, blogs, books, photographs, and other people’s stories.  After thinking about how this 100 minute movie has triggered my desire to return to Paris I decided I should blog about the things that inspire me to travel… Starting today with movies!

Sabrina (1995)

As I mentioned in my earlier post Paris My First Love this movie is what made me want to visit Paris.  Sabrina is the first movie to ever instill a sense of wanderlust in me.  My mother and I used to watch this movie together all the time, and our favorite scenes of course were the ones in Paris.  It is an amazing remake of a classic love story filled with some beautiful shots of Paris!  If you didn’t want to visit the City of Lights- you will after this.

Roman Holiday (1953)

Roman Holiday is another film that I watched with my mom, and a lot of the sites that we made sure to visit in Rome were based off this movie (which I know I’m not alone in this).  The thing that makes you want to travel are again the beautiful sites, but this shows a glimpse into a less-touristy time in Rome, and you can never go wrong with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.

Pride and Prejudice (2005)

This movie is filled with the most beautiful shots of the English countryside as well as amazing estates that makes you want to crawl through the screen and ride a horse across the landscape… Or maybe it’s just me.

The Darjeeling Limited (2007)

This movie has been just adding fuel to the fire as far as my desire to travel India for at least a year goes…  It shows some beautiful landscapes, but also goes a bit more into the culture.  You see the city life, the village life, temples and mountains.  I personally love Wes Anderson’s movies, and this one was not a disappointment.

Vicky, Christina, Barcelona (2008)

This is another Woody Allen film that has given me a serious case of wanderlust!  I have wanted to go to Spain for a long time- especially Barcelona because of all the amazing art and architecture.  This movie makes you fall in love with the city!  I even own the soundtrack to it because the Spanish guitar even gives me wanderlust!  Great movie!

Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday and I would love to hear what movies have given you wanderlust…

It’s great when a movie inspires you to try something new or to visit a place you don’t know yet!
