Wanderlust Wednesday: Movies That Inspire Travel Part 4

This week’s edition of “Wanderlust Wednesday” I’m going back to Movies that Inspire Travel!  (If you’re interested: view Part One and Part Two).  These are some of my favorite posts because I love to watch movies, and I love to be inspired to travel!  So here we go for this week….

Motorcycle Diaries (2004)

This is a movie about Che Guevara’s road trip from his home town in Argentina to a clinic in Peru- passing through Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Colombia.  I have been really into South America lately (especially Peru), and there’s a really beautiful part of this movie where he visits Machu Picchu (which is on my 5 before I’m 25 list), and it’s one of the most magical scenes!  This movie is not only inspiring to travel for fun, but it makes you want to take time to travel with a purpose.  It’s filmed in Spanish, and I actually really appreciate that because I think it adds to the authenticity of this film.  Check it out… You really will be inspired.

The Brothers Bloom (2008)

This is one of the cutest indie films I’ve seen in a really long time.  It’s about two con-artists trying to pull a really elaborate con on a millionaire, who just so happens to be completely adorable and interesting.  This elaborate con ends up taking them on a trip around the world.  It’s got some comedy, some romance, some mystery… It’s really great, and it makes you want to take an elaborate, grand adventure.  Watch if you’re going to Eastern Europe any time in the near future.

In Bruges (2008)

This movie was surprisingly awesome!  I hadn’t really heard of it, but I laughed out-loud about fifty times, and I cried in it too.  It’s about two hit men who have to stay in Bruges, Belgium for a while after a job.  I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll just say that it’s great (# 215 in IMDB’s top 250), and besides the fact you’ll be glad you watched it- you’ll want to go to Bruges!

One Week (2008)

This movie is about another motorcycle trip… This time the main character finds out he has cancer and needs  to take a step back and get away.  He does this by taking a road trip across Canada.  I really loved the parts where he visited places I’ve already seen, and it also gave me plans for new places to explore in Canada!  My favorite things about this movie, though, is how he learns about himself and life through travel.  I think that this is really important message because, like Motorcycle Diaries, it shows how travel isn’t just about vacation.  There are always lessons to learn and a purpose to your travels.  This movie was a really great reminder of that.

Funny Face (1957)

Funny Face is one of my favorite Audrey Hepburn movies.  It’s about a girl who comes to be a model and gets to go to Paris, and falls in love with her fashion photographer.  It’s a really sweet movie in a 1957 kind of way.  It involves dancing (so for people like my boyfriend… This might not be something for you).  However, I love all things musical, dancing, and Audrey!  The shots of Paris in this film are simply magic.  There’s nothing that makes me want to go to Europe more than photos of places in the 40’s-70’s, when it wasn’t so touristy.

Well that concludes my list of Movies That Inspire Travel for this week.  I’m running out of movies on my list to watch so please give me suggestions; I love to hear from my readers!  Thanks for reading!

One of my favorites and one that always makes me want to go back to Italy is Stealing Beauty. Directed by Bernardo Bertolucci.
