Wanderlust Wednesday- Movies That Inspire Travel: Part 3

Today, for Wanderlust Wednesday I’m going to do another edition of Movies That Inspire Travel because it’s the end of summer, and I’ve been lounging around watching movies, but I’m still feeling really inspired by a bunch of films to go to new places!  So here it goes…

7 Years In Tibet (1997)

This movie is a really great movie!  (You do have to get over a really strange Austrian Accent that’s coming out of Brad, though.)  This movie is based on the book that Heinrich Harrer wrote about his experience climbing a mountain in India when WW2 broke out and he was taken as a P.O.W.  Then he finally escapes to Lhasa, Tibet where he becomes friends with the young Dalai Lama, and they learn from each other when the Chinese take over Tibet.  It’s a really sweet and also powerful movie, and you will by dying to go to Tibet at the end of it.

127 Hours (2010)

This movie is also based on a true story, the story of Aron Ralston who was canyoneering and  mountain-biking in Canyonlands National Park, when he becomes trapped by a rock, and struggles for 127 hours until he decides to break the bone in his arm and then cuts it off to free himself.  It is very graphic, when he cuts off his arm, so if you’re squeamish, I would suggest looking away at that scene.  This movie inspires travel more at the beginning of the movie when he’s exploring the canyon, but I think the other parts are very intriguing and it’s almost like a demonstration of how he could’ve better prepared for that moment.  It’s a great movie, and you’ll feel a real sense of respect for Mr. Ralston by the end of it!

The Man From Snowy River (1982)

This movie is one of my dad’s favorite movies!  I watched it probably a million times growing up, but I recently watched it again, and I wanted to go to the mountains of Australia!  It’s the story of a boy who grew up in the mountains, and after his father died he went to work on a farm and fell in love with the farm-owner’s daughter.  He has to prove himself after being accused of letting a prized stallion loose.  It’s really a great family movie, too, where most of my others are more adult films, this will be one your kids can watch and be inspired!

Thanks Ashley for all your nice comments on my blog, I love reading them. Ah, that movie about Tibet was interesting. I like to watch a lot of foreign films too… Ones that aren’t made in Hollywood, they are a really great insight into other peoples countries and cultures, through their own productions. I die for the Rialto International Cinema. Amazing.

Thanks for looking at mine! I love foreign films as well, but I have to admit that I don’t see enough. I’ll have to look at Rialto International films! Thanks for the tip!
