Well, it’s halfway through the year so I thought I would do an update on my 2013 travel goals!
LEAVE THE COUNTRY (ONE I HAVEN’T BEEN TO IF POSSIBLE)
(A view of a street in Quebec City)
I can check this goal off! Zach and I went to Montreal and Quebec City, Canada. Even though I’ve been to Canada four times before this trip, this was a completely different experience. We were originally going to try to go to France and a few other countries this summer, but honestly Quebec was the closest place to France that I have ever been, so it was a great time! Plus, I still have six months left of the year- I could still make it to a country I haven’t visited before!
VISIT A NEW STATE
(Walking through Harvard in Boston Massachusetts)
I can check this goal off too! In fact, I didn’t only make it to one state that I’ve never visited before, I made it to TEN! That leaves me with only 3 states left to visit: North Carolina, South Carolina and Hawaii!
GO TO 10 NEW HIKING LOCATIONS OR HIKE 100 MILES
(The Beehive Hike in Acadia National Park)
I’ve been to a few new hiking locations: Montauk State Park, Havasu Canyon and Acadia National Park
Even though there are only three new locations listed so far, I’ve gotten 28 miles of hiking in- I have a lot more to go!
HAVE A GIRLS WEEKEND WITH MY MOM
My mom and I haven’t had a girls weekend yet, but we’ve been planning a couple options. I’m really looking forward to spending some time traveling with her because it’s been over two years since we’ve traveled together!
GO TO TWO DINERS, DRIVE-INS AND DIVES RESTAURANTS
This year I’ve tried to take on vegetarianism, and even though I have had some weak moments, most of the restaurants featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives involve meat. However, I’ll have to see where my road trips take me in the next six months and hunt out the vegetarian options.
TAKE A HIKING TRIP WITH MY DAD
(My dad and I under Havasu Falls in Havasu Canyon)
In March my dad and I took a week-long hiking trip, and the big highlight of that trip was our hike into Havasu Canyon! It is one of the most spectacular places I’ve ever visited!
HAVE A ‘WANDERLUST WEDNESDAY’ POST FOR EVERY WEEK
So far, so good with this one! I’m still having a blast keeping myself (and hopefully others) inspired with Wanderlust Wednesday posts! To fins all of these you can click on my Wanderlust Wednesday page. I’m always up for ideas from you guys for topics to feature, books to read, or movies to watch! I love getting your comments and suggestions!
WRITE A POST IN FRENCH WITHOUT USING GOOGLE TRANSLATOR
This is another one that I haven’t started yet! I realized while in Canada just how little French I know, and how much I have to learn. This one is going to take some work!
READ 12 TRAVEL ESSAYS OR BOOKS
So far I’ve read Motorcycle Diaries by Che Guevara, Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey and I’m working on re-reading Holy Cow by Sarah Macdonald and I’m looking forward to writing about it!
INSPIRE TRAVEL
This is the goal that means the most to me as far as this blog goes. As much fun as it is for me to write about my adventures and keep myself inspired I really want to instill a since of wanderlust and adventure in my readers. I really love the blogging community and I love communicating and supporting my fellow bloggers! Thanks for the inspiration you guys give me and I hope I can do the same!
Have you guys set travel goals for the year? If so, what were they and how are you doing? Let me know!
