New Year; New Goals. 2013 I set a lot of goals for myself, and even though I didn’t get all of them done, I did get accomplish some of them, and I definitely had a year filled with travel. Even though I didn’t accomplish all the goals I set, these posts are a great reminder for me! Here are my goals for 2014:
Visit a new state:
I fell a bit like I’m cheating on this one because I already know that I’m going to make it to two new states this year- North Carolina and South Carolina, but I’m very excited to be making it to 2 of the 3 states I have left to visit. After those two all I need is Hawaii and I can say that I’ve been to every state!
Leave the country:
This is another one that makes me feel a bit like I’m cheating, because in March I’m going to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein with my mother! I’m really excited to be traveling with my mom again because it’s been three years since she and I went on a trip together, and it’s also been about that long since I’ve been to a new country, so I’m very excited to be adding four new countries to my slowly growing list!
Go hiking with my dad:
My dad and me on our first father/daughter hiking trip in Zion National Park
In 2008, my senior year of high school, my dad and I started taking these little father/daughter hiking trips. It started with about trip of five days in Arizona and Utah and has grown into a pretty epic tradition: multiple day hikes, a two week trip in Moab/Washington, the Havasu Canyon Hike, and a three week road trip to Alaska. So, I hope to at least take a day hike with my dad this year so we can keep this tradition up!
Have a ‘Wanderlust Wednesday’ and a ‘Somewhere Saturday’ for every week:
I have really loved doing the Wanderlust Wednesdays and I hope to keep doing them for a long time. I often find quotes, read books, search Pinterest, watch movies, along with many other things, and I’ve really enjoyed sharing them with you guys! I started a new weekly post this year called Somewhere Saturday and they’re a photo from a past blog post and a little explanation, but have a link back to older posts that I’ve done! It’s a fun way for me to look back and reflect on past trips, and let new readers see where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to!
Read 8 travel books/essays:
Last year, I sat a goal to read 12 travel books, but only got around to six, so this year I’ve decided I’m going to try to read eight! I love these sources of inspiration and I’m always looking for suggestions on what to read next!
Get 100 hiking miles in or visit 10 new hiking locations:
This was a goal of mine last year and my mileage was on my computer, which crashed, but I did make it to ten new hiking locations and it was an absolute BLAST to get to see all of these beautiful new places, so I can’t way to see more in 2014!
Inspire travel:
The whole point of starting my blog was to share my personal experiences doing what I love more than anything: Traveling. I hope that I have been a source of inspiration for someone- whether it’s a destination or a mindset, and that is still my biggest passion!
What are your travel goals or blogging goals for 2014? I would love to get ideas or know where you’re going in 2014!

January 8, 2014 at 10:29 amHave a fabulous travel filled 2014!
I never seem to find time to read books these days (which I miss!) as I’m either writing or reading blogs! What would you recommend as a must read for the travel addict?

January 31, 2014 at 4:47 pmThank you, Kathryn! It’s hard to find time to read, I know! My #1 I would recommend is The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner (I did a post on it, and you can read it here) I also really love the Tao of Travel (here) and there are soooo many other on specific regions but I think these are great general travel books!

January 8, 2014 at 11:12 amYou have quite the 2014 ahead! Fabulous!
As far as me it will be at least one half marathon, a cycling trip in Italy, hopefully another country in Europe while there, perhaps France, going storm watching with my Mom off Vancouver Island next month, a trip with our adult kids to Jamaica in March to celebrate our 30 years of marriage….are you sorry you asked? π

January 8, 2014 at 8:26 pmHope you achieve all your travel goals for 2014 and more. Your blog is truly an inspiration.
I hope I can visit atleast one of the national parks this year in the US π

January 31, 2014 at 4:50 pmThank you so much! That’s so sweet! I hope you get to too! I love the National Parks and hope (someday) to get to all of them! Is there a specific one you want to see first?

February 4, 2014 at 9:45 pmThe Acadia national park in Maine is on the top of the list, closely followed by Crater national park in Oregon. Have you been to any of these? I would love your recommendations on the US national parks in general.
PaigeBrown
February 15, 2014 at 8:34 amI’ve been to both of them! I really enjoyed Acadia, but apparently fall is the time to go there because in the spring (which is when I went) the falcons are nesting and portions of the park are closed as to not disrupt the nests. Crater Lake is very beautiful as well!
My favorite parks are Olympic in Washington and Zion, Arches and Canyonlands in Utah! However, I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the parks!
I hope this is helpful! Let me know if there is anything else I could maybe help with! Thanks for reading and commenting!

January 9, 2014 at 1:40 pmThat’s such a great list! I hope you achieve all of it. This year, I know that I’m getting to go to at least two new places. Vancouver (for work) and Boston (for fun). I’m really excited about both of them. They’ve been on my every growing list of places to visit. Hopefully I’ll be able to sneak in a few trips to favorite places nearby too.

January 31, 2014 at 4:51 pmHow exciting! That will be so much fun! I know what you mean about the ever-growing-list. It doesn’t ever stop, does it? haha! I hope you have a great 2014!

January 9, 2014 at 7:19 pmGood luck on your goals! If you want a travel book suggestion, check out Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found if you are interested in visiting India. Don’t read Lunatic Express if you ever want to feel safe on an airplane or bus again. π

January 31, 2014 at 5:10 pmJeff, thank you so much for the suggestion! I am super interested in going to India, so I need to check that out for sure! Now, I’m a bit intrigued by Lunatic Express! Ha!

January 22, 2014 at 6:25 amAre you visiting VIenna on your Austria trip? It is up there as one of my favourite European cities, a real beautiful mix! There is a FAB schnitzel place recommended in one of the LP guides – amazing and rustic!
Great list, recommend away travel reads – sounds like a good way to pass the time!
PaigeBrown
January 31, 2014 at 5:49 pmI’m not, Holly. I’ll be outside of Salzburg, but hopefully I’ll make it to Vienna someday. Everyone says it’s amazing!
My favorite travel books that aren’t really “location specific” are Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner and The Tao of Travel by Paul Theroux.
Thanks for reading and commenting!
