Winter Road Trip Planning

I am a sucker for trip planning. Looking at maps and flipping through travel books get me through anything. Another thing I love to do when travel planning is blog about different destinations that I’m going to visit because you all give so many amazing tips!

I’m graduating in December, and to celebrate my newfound freedom from the clutches of college-life, I decided I want to go on a solo road trip to the east/south. I want to be gone around a month, and hopefully I will be able to do that. I’ve been really having a blast planning out all of the different places I want to visit. I’m staying with friends part of the time and Couchsurfing the rest of the time!

I’ve got my route mapped out… and yes, it takes two maps!

The first thing I did was pick cities that I definitely wanted to visit and I’ve got my route plotted out for the most part. (Orlando is the only thing that’s a bit up in the air). The next step is figuring out what all I want to do in these amazing locations! I went to my local AAA Office and picked up some of their travel books and maps to aid in picking out different sites to visit!

However, like I said, I love hearing from my fellow bloggers. So, below is a map with some of the cities I’m staying in. I would love to know if any of you guys have any tips for these cities or any in the area.

Any tips for Nashville, Mammoth Cave National Park, Ashville, Charlotte, Myrtle Beach, Beaufort, Savannah, Albany, Montgomery, New Orleans, Baton Rouge or any other places along the way, please let me know!

If there is anyway you can reroute your trip from Charlotte to Wilmington (instead of Myrtle Beach) and Wrightsville Beach, I’d highly recommend doing that. You would looove Wilmington. It’s charming and beautiful and historical. The downtown is gorgeous and there is a big ship that you can tour! I remember your cool, free ship tour in New England. You have to pass by Myrtle Beach on your way to Charleston, so you’d still get to see it. MB is totally a crazy, resort-filled, non nature-filled place. It’s flashy and loud. However, if you have a friend there you are going to visit, I totally understand. Just some tips!

And, of course, I CAN’T WAIT till you arrive here!! xx

And my route is remapped! I hate resorts. I’ve just always heard of Myrtle Beach, but Wilmington sounds so much better! Thanks for the tip!

I can’t wait either! Ahhhhhhh! I finally get to meet you and Lina in person and I cannot be happier!

Yay! Great! Well, as I said, you can still breeze through Myrtle Beach on your way Charleston just to see what all the fuss is all about. πŸ™‚

Two cheers for meeting face to face to face!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

This trip looks so awesome! I LOVE Asheville so much, not sure how long you’ll be there but I have a ton of great food suggestions. All of them are can’t-miss, even if you’re very particular with what you share your taste buds with. Ready? Early Girl for breakfast (very southern home style cooking, incredible breakfast that I’ll never forget and am always trying to recreate), Salsa’s, City Bakery Cafe, Tupelo Honey (sure you’ve heard of this place, it’s spreading like crazy now- for good, delicious reason), and definitely Izzy’s for coffee.

This is all about food, I know, but hope it helps! Asheville will make you want to move there, so be careful! Most of all, have a great trip.

I would pick Miami over Orlando… yes, it’s a little farther, but it’s an incredible city! If you want somewhere cheap to stay there, check out airbnb. Also, if you want to keep going south, Bahi’a Honda Key is my favorite island in the Keys. It’s a state park, you can camp there for cheap if you have a tent. It’s about a 3 hour drive from Miami. I have posts on both if you want to check them out! Have fun!!!

I’m doing Orlando for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I definitely want to check further south out eventually, but someone is meeting me in Orlando. Thanks for the suggestions though!
