One of my favorite things to do when I get to a country is eat. Although you might not say that I’m daring when it comes to eating proteins that are out of my comfort zone, I do love learning the new flavors, seasonings and combinations. Since I find food to be such a fun part of culture, it was an easy choice to partner with Expique for their Evening Food and Tuk Tuk Adventure.

What to Expect from Expique’s Evening Food + Tuk Tuk Advenure
When you book with Expique, they give you very clear directions of where to meet them. They recommend taking the SkyTrain and I will second that. We walked to the Skytrain station and took it down to the meeting place. However, the awesome German duo who met up with us partway through the first stop, took a cab and the traffic was so insane that even giving a window for error on GoogleMaps, they were very delayed.
While this tour isn’t all about eating crazy things like bugs and snakes, it isn’t your simple pad thai and curry tour either. This tour takes you to different parts of Bangkok to expose you to the different food cultures that are located all around the city. Be prepared to eat. Don’t stop for dinner or a snack before this tour because I can assure you there will be more than enough to eat.
Lastly, the transportation. Because it’s in the heart of Bangkok, it only seems right to take a tuk tuk around the city. While tuk tuks are fun, these take it to the next level – they’re clear topped tuk tuks. (If you’re traveling in a larger group, you can’t be guaranteed a clear tuk tuk.) I loved this because it’s just something new and unique. When it gets dark out, the clear top become incredibly cool.

Taking the Tour
Our tour began with samples of different dishes that you dip bread into, put on veggies or rice and some chicken. So, our wonderful guide, Alena, picked up some of these as we traveled through the streets.
The Flower Market had my favorite goodies. We got sweet, crispy chicken – it was perfection, and this delicious ginger soup with lots of potatoes. It was a delicious stop.
Look at that deliciousness!
Miang Kham salad (which we learned to make in The Market Experience’s class) / cowslip flowers, which were delicious / stinky pea soup… it’s appropriately named
Halfway through the night, we took some time to go sightseeing a bit. It was cool to get to see certain stops all lit up at night. Plus, it was nice to stretch our legs!
Then it was time for noodles and chicken… Yum!
Lastly, it was a stop in Chinatown for dessert. Yum. We had a super unexpected stop and then ended on something a bit more iconic to Thailand. First of was tea along with a couple of dessert soups.
When I first was told that we were going to be having soups for dessert, I was unsure what that was going to look like and more importantly, taste like. Left: was a hot ginger soup with sesame seed dumplings – it was super yummy and flavorful. Right: was a cold, super sweet soup with fruit in it.
Lastly, was the Thai classic, mango with sticky rice. Yum!
Review of the Tour
Expique offers unique experiences in Bangkok, just like this one. Our guide, Alena was very knowledgable and so much fun! She was really great about opening up opportunities without pushing us to try something we were not interested in eating. There was plenty of food – I know a lot of companies skimp on the amount of food, but that is not the case with Expique. The tuk tuk drivers were amazing as well. They were always there to pick us up, they had bottles of water for us (with cupholders) and even a cool washcloth after our walk. If you’re looking for a food tour that really shows you a deeper side of the food in Bangkok, this tour is for you.

September 28, 2017 at 8:15 amWhat an awesome tour concept! I love Bangkok, tuk tuks, and Thai food so this would be the perfect tour for me! The only struggle I have when I visit Bangkok is choosing which foods to eat so I love that you get to have such a big selection and everything looks delicious!

October 1, 2017 at 12:32 amI am sure clear top Tuk Tuk would’ve been fun. Based on the photos, I am sure street food would’ve been fun. I love street food and can say a lot of times, street food is better than restaurant food.

October 1, 2017 at 11:16 amThai food is so great, especially since they also have a lot of vegetarian choices. I can imagine booking a food tour through Expique, too, when I visit Bangkok. Giving you a clear top tuktuk for example, shows attention to details that not a lot of company have. Regarding the food, I would love to have the Miang Kham salad. Looks delicious!

October 1, 2017 at 4:54 pmOh Yes Please! I love a good Tuk-Tuk foodie tour and have heard of some interesting ones to take in Thailand although I’d never read a review on one, so this is great. Excellent to know this tour doesn’t feature bugs and spiders too!

October 2, 2017 at 10:08 pmI really enjoy food tours and I think I would love this one when I end up in Bangkok. The variety of thai street food is vast and having someone explain it would be so amazing!

October 3, 2017 at 12:26 amI am game for a food tour almost anytime! But Thailand especially Bangkok has a special place for some amazing street food. Expique does seem to know what they are doing and its nice to know they keep a tab on the preferences. A TukTuk food tour has been marked for my next trip to Bangkok.

October 3, 2017 at 2:02 pmThe food, especially the salad looks delicious! I’m visiting again end of the month so I gotta explore some street food although I heard many are being closed by the government. I hope there are still enough left for me to explore! I will definitely check out the Flower Market/

October 3, 2017 at 10:36 pmExpique’s Evening Food + Tuk Tuk Advenure sounds great! I love that it exposes you to the different food cultures that are located all around the city, and it’s so cool to zoom around in a clear topped tuk tuk! The Flower Market looks great, and it’s cool that they incorporated some sightseeing into the mix. Alena sounds great – can’t wait to book a tour myself!

October 3, 2017 at 11:10 pmSounds like the tour with Expique is the Foodie tour of Bangkok to take. Eating bugs and strange creatures is definitely not something I’d like to do so this tour seems right up my alley. I’d also love to experience taking a tuk tuk ride through the busy city. Soup for dessert might be a special treat.

October 4, 2017 at 8:24 pmI have a love/hate relationship with food tours. It can help really explore places to eat like the locals, but some of them tend to focus mostly on the places that tourists hang out which can suck because that might not be the real local food.
