Congaree National Park, South Carolina

I did a post late last year about the National Parks.  I thought that I had been to a lot of the National Parks- like close to seeing them all- and I found out I was not only nowhere close, but I was also completely uneducated on all of the different parts there actually are!  Congaree National Park is one of those…

When I googled Congaree National Park I saw this beautiful mass of green and I got freakin’ excited!  I discovered that I was going to be really close to this park on my road trip, and very quickly added it to my list of stops!

When I got here, I went into the Visitor’s Center, walked through their little exhibit, and grabbed my map.  I asked a park ranger what hike he recommended that I do, and he sadly informed me that due to a massive flood the only “trail” open was the elevated boardwalk.  I was a tiny bit disappointed, as was my new friend that I made, Mike of the blog The Walkabout, who is on a mission to do back country hike in the National Parks.  He had so many really interesting stories about his travels, and I was having a blast listening to them while we walked on the elevated boardwalk together:

Although this wasn’t the exact “look” that I fell in love with on my Google Search, I still think that Congaree was a very beautiful park!  The brown made for a different type of monochromatic look to it.  Plus, I was told that the park being flooded like this is genuinely something to see!
