I made another day trip in my own home state, and I went to Mingo Wildlife Refuge in the fall and LOVED the fall foliage. Â There’s a big concentration of bottomland hardwoods and swamp areas! Â It was really awesome! Â There was a really nice loop that you could drive around a vast majority of the park which was really nice, but there were lots of little pull outs and plenty of hiking opportunities, and even really easy boardwalk trails. Â There were a lot of opportunities to watch for waterfowl, and they had a pretty nice visitor center with exhibits on the wildlife that occupy the Refuge. Â After the day at Mingo, we went to the nearby Lake Wappapello State Park, which was gorgeous, but we didn’t stay for very long. Â I can’t wait to go back and hike again!
