Stockholm, Sweden

Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, and its archipelago is made up of over 30,000 beautiful islands!  As I walked through the streets here I thought it was a perfect summary of the way I’ve perceived Sweden during my visit: beautiful old European buildings, amazing design shops, and nature & water surrounding it all. History. Modernity. Nature.

My glorious visit to Stockholm started at the beautiful Central Station.  We checked our bags into a locker there and set off on our grand walking tour with Lina and Liz guiding the way!

We walked from Central Station alongside the water to the island Djurgården, an islands with lots of museums on it, including the museum I visited, The Vasa Museum (Vasamuseet).  I spend a couple of hours in the Vasa exploring the 6 levels of this massive museum- read more about this museum here.

When I met back up with Liz and Lina, they had arranged a little surprise, we took a ferry to the island of Stadholmen, where old town is located.

Old Town is magical. Plain and simple. It is the picture of quintessential European Old Towns. Houses connected to each other and painted pink, yellow, green & orange. Cobble stone streets. Narrow alleyways. Castle.  Stockholm’s Old Town has it all!

After our tour of Old Town we met up with a couple of Lina’s friends and had fika & tapas. We sat outside until the sun started to set, and then we made our way back to the train station to catch our train back to Norrköping.

It was a lovely trip to Stockholm, but I know that it was just a taste! I have a feeling that this wasn’t my only visit to Sweden, and that I will have plenty of opportunities to see even more of Sweden’s beautiful capital!
