And It’s One Life. And It’s This Life. And It’s Beautiful.

This weekend I picked my best friend, Lilly, up in Fulton, and we drove up to St. Louis to see my favorite band play at the Firebird: First Aid Kit!

First Aid Kit is a Swedish, indie-folk Sister-Duo and they are mind-blowing!  They are such talented musicians and lyricists.  Their music is so relevant and I highly encourage everyone to watch the videos I have below, and then find more!   🙂

We got in the doors and I met up briefly with a friend who was there, and she said she had talked to Klara (the younger, brunette sister) and at that moment she walked by, and stood at a table talking with fans.  I went over, very nervously, trying not to be all star-struck and talked to Klara for about 5 minutes and she was very gracious and just seemed like a genuinely sweet girl.  Lil and I were on the front row, and we had the privilege to see Indian Blanket and Dylan La Blanc open for them.  The lead singer of Indian Blanket and, Klara are dating and they did a cover of “Boots of Spanish Leather” together, which is my favorite Bob Dylan song.

This looks like a whole lot of nothing, but it’s me talking to Klara!

The girls played amazingly well.  There were some technical difficulties with the microphones at the end of their first song, so they unplugged and did an amazing cover of the Fleet Foxes’ song “Tiger Mountain Peasant Song”.  It was beautiful.  They came back on stage after taking a 15 minute break so they could fix the mics, and were insanely apologetic.

Johanna rockin’ it out right in front of me!

They really got there set going after that and played amazing song, after amazing song, encouraging the crowd to sing along several times.  The girls had so much energy: jumping up and down, dancing around and whipping their hair all around, it was amazing!  One of my highlights was hearing ‘Hard Believer’ when the sisters bellowed the lines “And it’s one life. And it’s this life. And it’s beautiful.” This is been one of my favorite lyrics since this song came out in 2010.

For their encore performance I was brought to tears when they covered my favorite Simon and Garfunkel song: “America”.  I had seen the video when they performed this in Stockholm for Paul Simon, and cried then, but seeing it live I was just unbelievably moved.  It was a really great show and I want to share some videos of these lovely ladies… I hope you enjoy!
