Pink art deco buildings, palm trees, and endless miles of white sand is the image that is conjured up in most people’s minds when they think about Miami. Of course, there is so much more to this bustling city by the sea as well. So much, in fact, it can be hard to decide what to visit first. Luckily, I have put together a short guide to help you see the very best bits.
WYNWOOD WALLS
If art is your thing, then you definitely will not want to miss the ultra-hip Wynwood Walls location. Full of bright, eye-catching pieces that pop in the Miami sun, you’ll find artwork from artists such as Inti, Crash, and Miss Van there. Check out their website for the full rundown on all the artists. There is also studio space for sculptural artists and of course a shop where you can buy some of the smaller curated pieces to adorn your own walls with. Of course, there is a bar and restaurant on site too, where you can rest and refuel. Although, as you would expect from such a location, it isn’t your normal cafe style place. Instead, it’s an uber-hip venue with wallpaper designed by none other than Shepard Fairey of Obey Fame. Something that makes it definitely worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood.
VENETIAN POOL
Okay, so technically the Venetian Pool isn’t actually in Miami but Coral Gables. However, as its so close it’s definitely worth taking a short trip to this neighboring city to see. In fact, the Venetian Pool is a great place to cool off in those hot Florida summers, and as it’s such a beautiful location, you may just want to stay a while. Expect a pool like no other, carved from a quarry with built-in grottos and Venetian style towers.
MIAMI BEACH
Obviously, no trip to this neck of the wood would be complete without visiting the world-famous Miami Beach. While there, make time to do the two following things. The first is to check out that well-known art deco architecture that runs along the beach front and is such an iconic part of the Miami identity. Head to Ocean Dr in South Beach for the best-maintained examples that are still in use today. The second thing that you just have to do if you’re in Miami Beach is to rent a yacht at BOAT.ME or from one of the other boating providers at the shore and explore Miami from the water. Not only is it the perfect place to catch some rays, but you can also live out your Crockett and Tubbs fantasy for real!
BAYSIDE MARKETPLACE
Last of all take some time to visit Bayside Marketplace on Biscayne Blvd. Not only is an excellent place for shopping or to grab a quick and cheap bite to eat, but they also have live bands playing in the open air every day from around 2 pm to 11pm. This is a fantastic place to just hang out and soak up some of that laid back Miami culture.
Miami is more than bright lights and beaches. These are just a few of the fun things you can do on your next trip to Miami!
