Elephant Rocks State Park is a really great park for families- I would highly recommend it! This park is filled with HUGE granite rocks plopped down in the Missouri landscape. They’re really fun to climb on, there’s a trail through the rocks and there’s a fantastic picnic area. There are a couple of old abandoned quarries in the park from when they were mined the beautiful rosy granite. This granite was used to make the St. Louis City Hall.
I went up there with Stacey and I was so excited to see her! It had been a few months since she moved back home, and it was great to see her! We hiked the trail around to one of the quarries and through the elephant rocks. They’re so much fun to climb on, and it’s crazy that these things are just resting here in the forest. Elephant Rocks State Park is about 15 minutes away from Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park, which is my favorite state park in Missouri, so far. Stacey and I also went there, but sadly my film messed up and I don’t have the photos to share. However you can read about the park and see other pictures of it in my post from earlier this summer: HERE.

September 22, 2012 at 10:51 pmI’m not sure of any places near Huston, except for San Antonio, which was a lot of fun! I use a book called Off the Beaten Path: Missouri to find a lot of the locations for my day trips, but there is an Off the Beaten Path: Texas I’ll put the link below and hopefully be hearing about all kinds of places to visit on your blood!
