I cannot believe that 2013 is over already, but I’m really excited for 2014 and all that it’s going to bring! My official 2013 wrap-up of my Best Travel Moments can be found here, but this post is all about the travel-related goals that I set for myself for 2013. I did a lot of them, but not all. Lucky for me there’s next year!
Leave the country (one I haven’t visited, if possible).
In June, I made my way to Canada for the fifth time, but I managed to make it to a new province, Quebec. We spent a few days in Montreal and Quebec City, but my favorite part was exploring the old parts of these cities. Although I had already been to Canada before, it was a lot of fun to explore a new part.
Go to a state I haven’t explored before.
Not only did I make it to a new state, but I managed to make it to 11 states I’d never been to before, leaving only three left for me to visit! The new state I spent the most time in, though, was New Jersey. I actually really fell in love with The Garden State- plus it offered some pretty spectacular views of New York City.
Go hiking 10 new places or get 100 hiking miles in.
I had my hiking miles on my computer, which crashed, unfortunately in October, and I genuinely cannot remember how many I got it (I don’t think it was 100, though), but I made my goal of ten new hiking locations! I got to hike in Montauk State Park– Missouri, Havasu Canyon– Arizona, Antelope Canyon– Arizona, Horseshoe Bend Overlook– Arizona, Acadia National Park– Maine, Kings Canyon National Park– California, Sequoia National Park– California, Joshua Tree National Park– California, Lake of the Ozarks State Park– Missouri, and Ponca Wilderness Area– Arkansas.
Have a girls weekend with my mom.
This is one of my goals that I didn’t meet. However, I’m very excited that about halfway through this year my mom decided to join me on my upcoming trip to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein! (March 2014) So, we’re more than making up for this!
Visit two Diner’s, Drive-Ins and Dives restaurants.
This is another one I didn’t get to. Honestly, I kind-of forgot about this, which is silly because I went on a really long road trip! Also, I was playing with vegetarianism earlier this year, so that didn’t help. However, I’m hoping to eat at a couple restaurants featured on this show during my upcoming road trip! (I leave Friday!)
Go on a hiking trip with my dad.
My dad and I took a pretty incredible hiking trip (one that my regular readers are probably tired of hearing about! ha!) We did the Havasu Canyon hike and I was able to see some of THE most incredible waterfalls on the face of this planet. I’m very excited that I got to see and experience this with my dad.
Have a ‘Wanderlust Wednesday’ post every week.
Wanderlust Wednesdays are one of my favorite parts of the week because I get to get some travel inspiration myself! I did all 52, and these posts made me want to start another weekly post- Somewhere Saturdays! I’ve loved doing these Wanderlust Wednesday posts and hope you guys do too!
Write a blog post in French without using Google Translator.
Well, unfortunately this is something that has been on my list for two years and I still haven’t managed to finish it! Maybe next year will be the year…
Read 12 travel essays/books.
I didn’t get 12 in, but I did manage to read six travel books: The Motorcycle Diaries by Che Guevara
Off Track Planet’s Guide for the Young, Sexy and Broke
The Great American Bus Ride by Irma Kurtz (stay tuned for this post)
Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck (stay tuned for this post)
Holy Cow: An Indian Adventure by Sarah MacDonald
Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey
Inspire travel.
I hope I have inspired travel this year. I love how so many of you guys have inspired me to travel to specific places or even just helped keep that travel spark alive!
Thank you to all of you and to all of my readers! I hope everyone had a wonderful 2013 and cheers to 2014 new goals, and new adventures!
