A Monthly Recap: March 2023

Hello, hello wanderers! Can you believe that we’re already 1/4 of the way through 2023? I know I can’t! But I am so glad that we are because we’ve ushered in my very favorite season: spring! This feels extra exciting this year because I’ve felt fairly trapped inside with our little bitty one. So, I love that we’re able to get outside more and more! Here’s a look at what we got into this month!

Trip Planning This Month

Trip planning has been another month of eagerly awaiting our truck so we can finally use our camper – we’ve had two rounds of delays, ugh. Guess what, though?! On March 10th we got confirmation that we officially had a truck – built that is! It was just time to wait for it to be delivered. We got our truck in at the last possible moment to be able to take it camping this weekend.

We did do more setting up in our camper, though. We added a bunch of decor and simple touches to make it feel even more homey. We did all the dishes for the camper, bought some space heaters and just spent some time out there.

We also have been low-key planning a week in Asheville, but we haven’t booked it yet, but we’re hoping to maybe spend a week there in May if we can find campsite availability. It seems like 2 years since we’ve been there because our visit last year was cut so short by extreme morning sickness. So, I’d really love to be able to make that happen!

Travel This Month

Liam made his very first trip out of state mid-month. Although it was really just for the errand of selling Matt’s car, we still celebrated him crossing the state line for the first time.

We did finally take a weekend trip as a family of four this month, though! We went to Memphis for the weekend and we learned a lot about traveling with two little ones! We reconfigured what we did by quite a bit, but still had a great time, ate some delicious food, drank craft beers and made a couple of stops on the way home to truly make the most of the journey!

Then, we had a somewhat spontaneous evening hike down in Arkansas. We hiked to Alum Cove Natural Bridge in Ozark-St. Francis National Forest and it quickly became a new favorite hike in Northwest Arkansas. We’ll have a more detailed post on that trail coming very soon!

AND as this is posting, we’re heading down to Arkansas for our very first camping trip! We’re going with my parents – who also bought a camper – and we’re looking forward to spending a weekend outside together filled with quality time! We super last-minute booked an activity that I think is going to be a blast on Saturday!

Travel Mishaps and Laughs This Month

The mom-brain is real in this poor head of mine. We spent our first evening in Memphis out and about. When we got back to the hotel, I took a shower and instantly realized that I had forgotten all of my toiletries, my hairbrush and even medicine! What the heck?! I’ve never done that before. The only thing I remembered was my toothbrush! We had to start Saturday off with a Walgreens run and I made some comical adjustments (like brushing my hair with Charleigh’s teensy toddler comb) but thankfully it was only a weekend.

Best Thing We Ate This Month

I have to say that this was a 2-way tie for two very different foods: the sweet pastries from Blue Heron Farm & Bakery and the sausages from Charlie Vergos’ Rendezvous!
Matt made the travel goal to try 12 new restaurants/cafes locally this year. So, when our friends invited us to join them at a local cafe, we jumped on it! The pastries at Blue Heron are just incredible. The pain au chocolat is the best Matt and I have had outside of France. Yum!
We had a handful of super delicious things while we were in Memphis, but the sausages at Rendezvous were so incredible! I’m a huge fan of bbq sausage and the dry rub on their’s was just… *chef’s kiss*.

Travel Inspiration This Month

I’ve been following Courtney from The Wilder Fam for a long time, back when she had a solo Instagram feed going. Now, she’s a fellow Mama of two and she shares all things nature-based-mamahood and I am so obsessed with it. It’s been really inspirational for me as I start setting some of my own personal goals in place for my own journey as a mama. Plus, she’s been doing the camper thing for a long time now, so I love getting all kinds of inspiration from her on that front too – they just bought a vintage pop-up that I’m super excited to watch the reno of! I love following her for lifestyle tips, motherhood tips and camper/outdoors tips! Follow her on Instagram here.

Life Updates In March

I turned 33 this month. Honestly, it simply felt like another day passing, as birthdays seem to be as you get older. But, so many people wished me a happy birthday via phone call, text, in person or social media all day long. Feeling the love, being very mentally healthy and sweet gestures or gifts over the following week made it so special. That all makes me feel so grateful.

The brewery I work for (4 By 4 Brewing Company) opened their second location this month and I’m so obsessed with the space! I feel so lucky to be part of the 4 By 4 fam and look forward to working both behind the bar and behind the scenes here for many years to come!

What’s Coming in April?

April is a busy month for us! We have plans to go to Arkansas and St. Louis this month. We have Easter celebrations with family coming next week and I’m excited to watch Charleigh hunt eggs! I’m also hosting a couple of Earth Day cleanups with 4 By 4, hoping to make an even bigger impact by getting even more people involved and I’m really excited that I have the opportunity to do so!

I hope you guys had a beautiful March, I’d love to hear if you have any highlights, laughs or exciting plans coming up! Drop them in the comments if you do!
