Family Road Trip to Texas- (Day One)

Today my dad, mom, brother, my mom’s two dogs and I departed at 6 a.m.  My family is notorious for our road trip adventures whether it’s falling off a huge hill in Alaska, driving through a wall of flames in Ohio, or getting lost in terrifying neighborhoods bringing my dad to tears.  The last real road trip that was just family- where we could let our freak-flag fly- was in 2001.  (Why, yes, that is me in the completely lime-green outfit)

Call me old-fashioned or just full of nostalgia today, but I pictured us singing our classic road trip songs of “Found A Peanut”, “My Gal’s a Corker”, and “The Buzzard Song”, or playing “The Alphabet Game”.  However, since my brother is now 25 and I’m 21 it was really different.  My mom wrestled her two spoiled yorkies, my dad stressed about the insane Texas traffic, Cory played on his iPhone, and I read the 6th Outlander book!

Today was a long day of driving (13 hours from MO to TX).  Our first stop was in Dallas where we ate at  In-N-Out Burger.  No one else had been there before so they all had their first one.  It was really delicious- I really love their fries.

Then we drove from Dallas to San Antonio, making very few stops, only for gas and restrooms.  However, we saw Baylor’s campus in Waco and the State  Capitol in Austin.

We rolled in about 8 p.m. due to ridiculous traffic, so it was a pretty uneventful day, but tomorrow will be much more exciting and I’ll be sure to post again tomorrow from the Riverwalk!

Haha Thank you! It is the American Falls. We all really liked the Canadian side better! Have you been?

I heard the Canadian side is better, but I didn’t have a visa to cross the border, the made of the mist gave a better view of American and horseshoe falls. If I go again, I will plan to see from Canadian side.

They’re both amazing, but the Canadian side was so clean, and the falls just seemed more majestic. I loved the Maid of the Mist! It was my favorite part!
